Claimh Solais: Wednesday Weird #4: The Barbarian
Technically, a barbarian could be anyone whose ways are considered primitive by the people around him or her, but Robert E.  Disney's Dave the Barbarian
The new half-hour animated kids show "Disney's Dave the Barbarian" is a nothing-but-nonsense series that goes nowhere quickly and takes its young audience on a disordered joy ride of silly jokes and one-liners.
The land is called Udrogoth, kind of a medieval place (we're not entirely sure), and Dave and his two sisters rule the place along with a sorcerer named Uncle Oswidge and, also of importance, Dave's nagging sword named Lula.
The problem with "Dave" is not only its loud and rather crass sense of humor but also styles of animation and storytelling that are as chaotic as we've seen in a long time.

Movie Info for Dave the Barbarian [Animated TV Series] on MSN Movies
Title character Dave was the oldest son of a mother-father team of barbarian warriors, who spent most of their time away from home on an odyssey of conquest and domination (all the while sending their kids "Wish you were here" cards and souvenirs from each of the foreign lands they had vanquished).
Naturally, Dave was expected to uphold family tradition and become a warrior himself, but he would much sooner have stayed at home with his sister Candy and little brother Fang and spend his time making elaborate gourmet meals.
Created by Douglas Lansdale (Earthworm Jim, The Weekenders), Dave the Barbarian was delightfully reminiscent of the old Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons, replete with over-the-kid's-head jokes, deliberately sloppy animation, and the frequently snide and intrusive interpolations from the series' narrator (aka "The Storyteller").
