 Civic Media Center celebrates third birthday with talk by David Barsamian
Barsamian is the founder of Alternative Radio, heard locally most Monday's at 12:15 on Classic 89 and on over 120 other stations across the U.S. and Canada.
Barsamian will be the guest speaker at a CMC fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 18 at the Unitarian Fellowship, 2814 NW 43rd St. The evening will start with a dessert social at 7 p.m., with Barsamian's talk, "Beyond Politics as Usual" at 8 p.m.
Barsamian is perhaps the most appropriate speaker the CMC could host to celebrate this occasion, since he has made progressive, independent and left voices available to so many people who would not otherwise get this perspective and information.

Although the left entrepreneur family that publishes Z magazine took in $120,000 in the fiscal year ending 12/31/2000, all the writers it published were only paid $38,700 during the year, for the articles they wrote.
Although a chart in Barsamian's book on public broadcasting indicates that the Ford Foundation was among the PBS national programming underwriters who contributed more than $1 million in 2000, the book's index apparently contains no reference to the Ford Foundation's crucial role in setting up the public broadcasting system.
Barsamian's book index also contains no reference to the Schumann Foundation, although it makes 3 references to book passages that describe Schumann Foundation President Bill Moyers' Public Affairs TV programs in a favorable way.

David Barsamian is director of Alternative Radio, which produces his weekly radio program, "Alternative Radio." The program is carried on public radio stations and coverage is spotty, so check your local stations (unfortunately, at the moment Barsamian doesn't seem to have a list on the Internet of radio stations which do carry his program.)
Barsamian is probably best known, however, for the book-length interviews he's done with Noam Chomsky including, Chronicles of Dissent, Keeping the Rabble in Line, The Prosperous Few and the Restless Many, and Class Warfare.
He's also published a book-length interview with Edward Said, The Pen and the Sword.
