  Georgia Tech Professor Wins Eminent UK Physics Prize
Professor Flannery, a theoretical physicist at Georgia Tech, is an expert in the theory of atomic and molecular collision processes and is generally regarded as a world leader in his field.
The Bates Prize was created two years ago by the IOP to honor research scientists who make significant advances in atomic and molecular physics.
The prize is named in honor of Professor Sir David Bates, a preeminent physicist who established the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics at The Queen's University of Belfast in 1952.
