The result of this new regulation, predicted Bergland, will be that many companies will simply prohibit employees from doing any work at home, since employers won't want to run the risk of OSHA fines or inspections.
Ironically, the new home-office regulations may actually increase the number of people killed or injured, said Bergland, since it could force them to commute to an office again instead of working at home.
At the same time, a Washington University Center for the Study of American Business study estimated that the cost of complying with OSHA regulations is about $34 billion a year-- a price tag that could skyrocket with the new home-office regulations.
