Byron performs for his audience, and never more so than when either his political or his erotic lives were in question.
Byron never would have conceptualized himself as gay or straight, homosexual or heterosexual for a number of reasons, not the least of which the terms and the ideas of the terms did not exist yet.
Byron "took comfort in the company of a young boy" and sought to help the Greeks overcome their tyrants in order to remain "faithful to his erotic nature and the politics of feeling it inspired" (171).

David Byron - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Byron (January 29, 1947- February 28, 1985 real name David Garrick) was the original lead vocalist (1969-1976) for British rock band Uriah Heep (and their immediate precursor, Spice (1967-1969)).
Gifted with a phenomenal vocal range (paired with an unparalleled sense of dynamics), and a charismatic stage presence, Byron's theatrical, emotive vocals and on-stage flamboyance defined the band during his tenure with them.
Dismissed from the band for a serious alcohol problem in 1976, Byron would unsuccessfully attempt to revive his career with Rough Diamond (a band also featuring former members of Humble Pie and Wings), a second solo album (Baby Faced Killer), and The Byron Band, before dying of alcohol-related complications in 1985.

"Shelley, Byron, and the Maniac Poetics." KSR 12 (1998): 131-46.
Byron's national aspirations for Greece and Israel were in opposition to British foreign policy "which since 1791 had been to prop up the declining Ottoman Empire in order to keep open the route to India, and prevent the ambitions of Napoleonic France, Russia and Austria of extending their influence to the Mediterranean" (228).
Simpson considers how Byron's and Shelley's dramas were received by the press, and draws on the work of Foucault, Sedgwick, and other theorists to consider the importance of historicism, homoeroticism, and the closet as metaphors for their efforts at political reform.

Indeed, Byron left the group which he co-founded - well, he got sacked, but everybody says he left, because David was flying too high in his alcohol-addled star reverie to notice he'd let the ensemble down - in 1976, at the time when their music style and his lifestyle became unfashionable.
So "Born To Perform" - that's how Ken Hensley described his late colleague - is as good as a fan's book can be, with its fair share of repetitions and punctuation going AWOL but, unlike suchlike aficionados, Perkins went to respectable length in his pursuit of tracking down the bits of his idol's life.
There'll be criticism in Perkins' own address as well, yet his ruminations on life - not only Byron's - are interesting even to those who was born too late to see their heroes in full flight, and make up for blanks in the account of the years preceding the singer's death.

Jaguars quarterback Byron Leftwich, who was off to a sizzling start in leading his team to a 5-3 record, will be lost at least four weeks -- perhaps the rest of the season -- with a partically torn lateral collateral ligament (LCL) in his left knee, a Jaguars source said.
The injury is not as severe as a torn anterior-cruciate ligament, but it takes time to heal, which is why Leftwich could be gone for the season.
Garrard has started one game in his career, back in his rookie season in 2002, but there was some sentiment in Jacksonville he should have been the starter to open this season.
