Hamilton Centre Member of Parliament David Christopherson was elected to the House of Commons in 2004 and re-elected in 2006.
Prior to entering federal politics David was the Member of Provincial Parliament for Hamilton Centre; elected in 1990 and re-elected in 1995 and 1999.
David began his public political career serving several terms as a Municipal Alderman and Regional Councillor.

Mr Christopherson: I don't want to use the word "spin," but we're getting close to sort of making an argument about something or taking a fact and trying to show it in a certain light, which is fair game and I expect that to be reflected in the final report.
Mr Christopherson: I was just suggesting that where it says "allowed" in the second-to-last sentence of "Property Taxes," first paragraph, we change that to "resulted in a number of municipalities postponing decisions on this complex issue." That's factually correct and that's what was pointed out.
Mr Christopherson: If you put "the government considered outdated", that would be absolutely fine with me. When we collectively are trying to find a document we can agree on and you make the statement that they are outdated, I and my party don't believe all those regulations were outdated.

Di Ianni was first elected to Stoney Creek city council in 1982, where he served until the 2000 amalgamation of Stoney Creek into Hamilton.
He then served as a Hamilton councillor until November 2003, when he defeated former provincial NDP cabinet minister David Christopherson in that year’s mayoral election (52% to 39%).
Di Ianni's major policies included the completion of the controversial Red Hill Expressway, business tax reduction, airport development, improving relations among the amalgamated municipalities, and obtaining additional social service funding from senior levels of government in the wake of cost downloading via the previous Conservative provincial government.
