Dr David Chu and military retiree abuse   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
David Chu, Undersecretary for Personnel and Readiness is well known for his mouth and his opposition to military retiree benefits as wasteful and detrimental to current DOD efforts.
Chu would have us believe we "paid no attention to our annuity package." Rather, we were promised one thing when the opposite was true; the annuity package and "earned benefits" were different from what we were told and they are now being told.
Now Dr. Chu claims the funding ox is in jeopardy of being gored because military retirees have finally had enough of the "use and abuse" attitude of DOD and many in Congress and are demanding restoration of earned benefits.

He says, "The point Dr. Chu misses is that honoring the solemn obligations of our nation to veterans makes a direct contribution to national security even if he chooses to ignore the moral strictures that bind us to promises.
Having served more than 36 years on active duty and with 6 sons who have served or are serving in the armed forces, I can testify that every failure to honor those obligations diminishes the value of a military career to those who are serving and those who might serve in the future.
