David Clark was born in Epsom, New Hampshire May 18, 1817, the fifth child of James Clark and his second wife, Hannah Robinson.
By 1850, David Clark and his wife were living in Lowell with three children, his trade as carpenter; also in Lowell were his brother Dustin with 2 children, and the mother of Dustin's wife, Betsey Robinson, with three daughters.
David Clark, as did so many others, decided to seek new fortune in California, and left the port of Boston for New York City, and left New York for Nicaragua at 3 pm, Feb. 5, 1852.

DAVID MACKINZIE CLARK, state solicitor of the Fifth Judicial District and ex-mayor of Greenville, was educated both for the civil engineering and law professions, and at one time was city engineer of Greenville.
David Clark, his grandfather, spent most of his life in Halifax County, was a wealthy planter and slave owner, owning at once time 300 slaves and operating a fleet of steamboats from Halifax County to Norfolk, Virginia.
Clark was nominated for the office of solicitor of the Fifth Judicial District of North Carolina and subsequently elected and qualified on January 1, 1927.

Clark was a Fulbright Lecturer at the University of Iceland during the 1960-1961 academic year and later received another Fulbright grant to teach at University College in Dublin.
The David R. Clark Papers reflects the academic and publishing interests of the noted American Irish literary scholar, and comprises one linear foot of correspondence, manuscripts, newspaper clippings, publishers' announcements, photographs and ephemera.

David liked to be called by his callsign, ``Moonpie.'' He was a Marine aviator for nine years, and had been in the Marine Corps for twelve.
David was given a full-honors military funeral and graveside service at Arlington National Cemetary on February 5, 2003.
