Crouch was ultimately diagnosed with an untreated and aggressively growing brain tumor, after someone other than his regular prison physician examined him in the prison health ward and ordered a brain scan.
While his mother and then-attorney David Raybin were pressing prison officials for a medical furlough, guards kept finding Crouch on the floor, where he had fallen after trying to call for help or go to the bathroom.

Maybe the book was never intended for a wide audience (the back of it states it's "a must for specialist and amateur medievalists alike") but I think it comes close enough to a wide audience style that after a few tweaks it could be stacked next to the Antonia Frazer-like books.
