  THE HON. DAVID DAGGETT
DAVID DAGGETT was born in Attleborough, in the county of Bristol, in the commonwealth of Massachusetts, on the 31st of December, 1764; and, of course, at the day of his decease, April 12th, 1851, had passed through three months and twelve days of his eighty-seventh year.
Daggett, Professor of Divinity, and President in Yale-College, and grandfather of the late Captain Henry Daggett, whose residence was in George street; and Thomas Daggett, the grandfather of David Daggett, whose death we now mourn.
Daggett was transferred from the chair of the House of Representatives, in 1797; and he retained his seat there, for seven years, until he resigned it in 1804.

Daggett joined the Army in World War II and was stationed in India as a techical sergeant in communications.

Naphtali Daggett (September 8, 1727 - November 25, 1780) graduated from Yale in 1748 and became pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Smithtown, Long Island in 1751.
He became the second president of Yale pro tempore on the resignation of its first president, Thomas Clap, in 1776, and served in that position until 1777.
When the British attacked New Haven, Connecticut in 1779, Rev. Daggett took up arms in defense but was taken prisoner, and was forced to serve as a guide.

DAGGETT, Naphtali, clergyman, born in Attic-borough, Massachusetts, 8 September 1727; died in New Haven, Connecticut, 25 November 1780.
He was graduated at Yale in 1748, studied theology, was ordained pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Smithtown, L. I., in 1751, and in 1756 became professor of divinity at Yale, which post he retained until his death.
When the British attacked New Haven in July 1779, Dr. Daggett took part in the defense with a shot-gun, but was taken prisoner, and compelled by the enemy to act as a guide, and repeatedly pricked with bayonets until his strength failed, and he never fully recovered.

Some of the distinguished members of the line were Judge David Daggett, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Connecticut (1832-34); Naphtall Daggett, president of Yale University (1766-77) and its first professor of Divinity, and John Daggett, "The Historian of Attleborough."
(II) Thomas Doggett, later Daggett (c.1630-1691), son of John Daggett and his first wife, was, it appears, the first to change the spelling of the family name to Daggett, but probably not until near the end of his life.
The sign of the old inn, with its royal crown of England and date of 1725, is now owned by the Attleboro Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and is in their Chapter House.
