THE PHYSICS OF DAVID DEUTSCH   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
Deutsch believes that the photons in the two-slit experiment are prevented from landing on certain parts of the film because they are being interfered with by invisible ''shadow'' photons from a parallel universe.
Deutsch's grander, overriding aim is to argue that in making sense of the universe, science must take its theories not just as handy tools but as serious descriptions of how the world works.
Deutsch discusses, demystifies and connects such topics as quantum computers; the physics of time travel; the comprehensibility of nature and the physical limits of virtual reality; the significance of human life; and the ultimate fate of the universe.

The Fabric of Reality by David Deutsch
David Deutsch is a well known theoretical physicist whose research focuses on quantum physics and the relatively new field of quantum computation.
Deutsch correctly argues that the specific patterns by themselves are not important or interesting, but what is important and interesting is an understanding of the underlying laws of physics which describe, explain if you will, the emergence of these patterns.
Deutsch is right that Cantgotu environments can be said to exist if we allow an environment to be defined on the basis of incomputable answers plus we accept the requirement that an environment is not considered rendered until we build a machine that can render the environment for an infinite amount of time.

MWI, Multiverse, Parallel Universes, The Fabric of Reality by David Deutsch
David Deutsch, inventor of the quantum computer, is one of the most outspoken proponents of the parallel universe theory or, as he calls it, the theory of the "multiverse".
Deutsch claims in his book that one can deduce from simple photon slit experiments that there must be multiple universes and that it is not necessary to study the more technical aspects of the theory before one draws that conclusion.
Deutsch's answer is that since the entities passing through the other slits behave exactly like photons in their capacity of causing the interference pattern, these entities must in fact be photons.

 Book review of David Deutsch
Deutsch disagrees: scientific knowledge consists of explanations, not of facts or of predictions of facts.
Deutsch believes that the explanation is as important as the predictions: experiments are the method that science uses to verify explanations, and predictions are what discriminates between theories.
Deutsch's multiverse is not a mere collection of parallel universes, with a single flow of time.

David Deutsch on the future of quantum computing
In a recent post to his blog, David Deutsch, one of the founders of the field of quantum computing, claims that he now believes quantum computers are only years away.
While I agree completely with Deutsch that cluster state quantum computing has been extremely positive, and represent a major theoretical development, I completely disagree with his view that, as a result, quantum computers are just around the corner.

SS > NF reviews > David Deutsch
Deutsch states quite clearly that there are quantum programs that cannot be run on a classical Turing machine.
(Deutsch is a much better physicist than I am, however.) Cramer's Transactional interpretation, in particular, seems to offer equally plausible explanations of these experiments, without being so profligate with universes.
It is very well written (the dialogue between Deutsch and the crypto-inductivist is particular fun), brings together some important ideas, avoids the excesses of Penrose and Tipler (whilst exploiting their good parts), and gives a view onto a humane and rational explanation of the world.

Nanodot: Nanotechnology News and Discussion » Blog Archive » David Deutsch and quantum constructor theory
Deutsch is quite adamant about the multiverse interpretation (as opposed to the Copenhagen interpretation) of the famous Shrodinger's cat experiment.
David Deutsch's most important contribution was to formulate the idea of a Turing machine-like general quantum computer exploiting quantum parallelism.
Deutsch's 1985 paper on the universal quantum computer was important, but it was really Peter Shor's 1994 discovery of the factoring algorithm, and subsequent work by Shor and others on quantum error correction, that led to the explosion of interest in the field.

 EDGE: HOW DEMOCRACY WORKS
In 1998 Oxford physicist David Deutsch was awarded the Paul Dirac Prize "For pioneering work in quantum computation leading to the concept of a quantum computer and for contributing to the understanding of how such devices might be constructed from quantum logic gates in quantum networks."
Deutsch's work on quantum computation has led him into two important areas of research concerning (a) "the structure of the multiverse ‹ making precise what we mean by such previously hand-waving terms as 'parallel', 'universes' and 'consists of'.
According to Deutsch, one spinoff from the quantum theory of computation is that "it provides the clearest and simplest language, and mathematical formalism, for setting out quantum theory itself."

 DEUTSCH, David
David cherished his family life, and loved spending time with his three daughters and later seven grand-children, which often included outings to a bakery or sweet shop.
David's deep love for his family, his warmth and compassion for his friends, his courage in the face of adversity and his exceptional integrity and modesty will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years Barbara Deutsch; devoted daughters, Debbie Goodman, Suzanne Warner, and Amy McGeever and their husbands; seven wonderful grandchildren, his loving sister Pearl Tobias of Montreal and her family, and brother-in-law, Herb Goodman and his family.

Deutsch's lack of intimate contact with the world at large does not preclude his ability to change it profoundly.
Now a handful of physicists are actually trying to construct the computer Deutsch envisioned, one whose fundamental components are single atoms or even individual particles of light.
In a tour de force paper published ten years ago, Deutsch explained how it may be possible to build a computer that, by taking advantage of a particle's ability to be in many places at once, could routinely handle problems that now require so many computational steps that they are impossible to solve.

For bin Laden is widely considered by pan-Islamists to be an embodiment of redemption, through his unbelievably dramatic attacks on the U.S., and what he represents to many Muslims.
