 David Eddings Overrated
The background story was so convoluted it truly seemed it like it was convoluted for the sake of convolutedness, and ironically, for a saga with such a complex, tortuous background, the language of the rest of the book was mind-dullingly plain, even predictable.
Basically the only reason why I continue to read Eddings is because the plot sucked me in - and some might think that that is a confirmation of Eddings' talent, but frankly, I sometimes watch trashy, inane soap operas just because the plot sucked me in.
Eddings has good ideas, and he conveys imagery in a way that's very easy to understand, but I dunno, I just don't like the rest of his presentation.

Along with co-author and wife Leigh, David Eddings has since churned out such fantasy sagas as the The Belgariad (of which Pawn of Prophecy was book one), The Mallorean, The Elenium, and the Tamuli.
Although he is sometimes criticized for the repetitive nature of his story telling ("if you've read one series you've read 'em all") and the shallow characterization of his villains, many readers (especially younger readers) applaud his works for their wit, their easy comprehensibility, and their likeable protagonists.

Eddings is a fluent storyteller whose humour, banter and unfaltering narrative flow conjure entertainment from highly familiar plot devices.
One of the problems with The Tamuli is that when Eddings and his wife were creating the world, it was done so in a much shorter time than that of the Belgariad.

David Eddings, along with wife Leigh Eddings, are long-time authors in the fantasy genre, with the best-selling Belgariad and Malloreon book series to their credit, along with others.
Beloved by thousands of die-hard fans, it is perhaps the improbability of the Eddings' universe, a world of engagingly "human" gods and goddesses, warmly drawn characters and delightfully witty dialogue that make the Eddings' books so enormously appealing.
David Eddings' name is alone on most of the titles, though recently Leigh Eddings has been acknowledged as the "silent partner" all along.

The SF Site Featured Review: Polgara The Sorceress
David Eddings firmly established himself as one of the most popular fantasy authors with the success of the The Belgariad and The Malloreon (together encompassing ten books).
The Eddings state right off that these are two different tales, and since they are told by two different characters, it's up to the reader to decided who's remembering a truer version of events.
The Eddings' fantasy tends to have pretty simple plots, but I've always thought the reason that the Eddings have become so popular is the strength of their characters and the fabulous way that the novels seem familiar, even on the first read.

Eddings then embarked on another Fantasy series that could be considered more original, but the same as what perviously went before it.
All that I've noticed is his plots remain nearly the same, complete with the character niches and developmen, however I paid enough attention to the little details and happenings to momentarily block off the massive faulty errors in his writings and appreciate some of it.
While it has some new spin on old ideas (Transferring godhodd), none the less, it seems he's sticking to his routine of blatant good vs. evil, which pivots on a group of people, except this time their all children, so their might actually be serious character development, as it will be a four part series.
