David holds his elite court, invites high people to be around him, introduces people to other people, pollinates, mixes, and spreads creative debris in all directions, yet he can be an outrageous authoritarian once he has fatigued himself into dysfunction and amnesia.

By a weird coincidence, it was at tis time that Cipollina, Freiberg and Murray had their van break down outside the basement where Grubb and Elmore were living; and so the two fragments were joined together.
All in all, it was rather a sad and frayed ending to the career of a group which had so much promise; but their demise has at least enhanced their enigmatic and legendary status, confirmed by some of the finest music of the late Sixties.

 Planet Mellotron Album Reviews: K1
Apparently named for David Crosby's nicknames for Kantner and Slick, Baron von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun is a decidedly watered-down version of Jefferson Airplane, then in the last throes of dissolution, just before the dodgy Jefferson Starship rose from the ashes like a rather slick phoenix (pun intended).
David Freiberg's Mellotron is used fairly extensively, with background strings on Fat, and a much more upfront part on Flowers Of The Night, ditto Across The Board, while Harp Tree Lament adds flutes to the ubiquitous strings.
Six out of ten tracks is pretty heavy usage, and it's rarely hidden away in the mix, so top marks on the 'Tron front and recommended for that, at least.
