A Scientific Analysis of Olympic Athlete Performances - Dr David Jenkins
Remember that many Olympic competitors are professional athletes who are able to devote large periods of their lives to training and preparation.
Scientists use very specific fitness tests to monitor the progress of athletes and the effectiveness of training programs; eg blood is taken to measure lactate, hormones etc. Training programs are 'individualised' and tailored to each athlete depending on areas of relative weakness and strength.
Common to all athletes is the need to 'taper' their training and to 'peak' for competition.

Slater and Jenkins also report that the supplement doesn't appear to work so well -- if at all-- in trained athletes, or for experienced strength trainers in general.
