In 1837 John Maclean was engaged as a clerk in the ordnance department of the War Office.
John Lean changed his name in the belief that he was descended from a branch of the Maclean family of Dochgarroch that had settled in Cornwall and dropped the Gaelic prefix to leave the 'raw' clan name.

The Right Honourable David John MacLean (born May 16, 1953) is a United Kingdom politician, and Conservative Member of Parliament for Penrith and The Border.
He was elected to the Commons in a by-election in 1983, and served as a junior minister under Margaret Thatcher and John Major.
When Duncan Smith lost a vote of confidence, MacLean tendered his resignation but was reappointed to the position under new leader Michael Howard.

In 1545, Maclean of Duart acted a very prominent part in the intrigues with England, in furtherance of the project of Henry VIII, to force the Scottish nation to consent to a marriage between Prince Edward and the young Queen Mary.
The quarrel between the Macleans and the Macdonalds of Isla and Kintyre attracted, in 1589, the serious attention of the king and council, thus the rival chiefs, with Macdonald of Sleat, were summoned to Edinburgh.

Angus Hector MacLean (1892-1969), Universalist minister, theological school professor and dean, played a major part in reshaping the philosophy and practice of religious education within the Universalist and Unitarian denominations during the 1930s, '40s and '50s.
MacLean was a man of broad interests—education, theology, administration, campus affairs, oil painting, outdoor activities, and spectator sports, especially ice hockey.
MacLean's academic career stretched from 1924 until 1960—first as an instructor at Columbia University Teachers College, 1924-28, then as professor of religious education at the Theological School of St. Lawrence University, 1928-60, and as dean, 1951-60.

In 1988 John Maclean was a promising rugby league player with the Penrith Panthers in the then NSW Rugby League competition.
As you read this today, John Maclean is now regarded as one the greatest and toughest athletes the world has ever seen, wheelchair or not.
John completed the 42.2Km run leg on his wheelchair to become the first wheelchair athlete to finish the entire course, but due to missing the cycle cut off time he was not awarded the title of Ironman.

John Lionel Campbell was born in 1908 in Montague, P.E.I. He was married to Janet Annie Wagner, and they had 6 children- Ruth, Barbara, Linda, John Cecil, Frederick James, and Jeanette.
