David King Udall was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1851 to English immigrant Mormon parents, who moved to Utah with young David the next year.
Following his marriage to Ida Hunt, David Udall's family was placed under additional stress by reactions among their predominantly Hispanic and Catholic neighbors, who resented the Mormons at St. John's as newcomers occupying land that was not rightfully theirs.
David Udall's eleven children who survived childhood included two state supreme court justices and a mayor of Phoenix.

David King Udall was born on September 7, 1851 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of David and Eliza King Udall.
David K. Udall testified in the Case of Miles P. Romney and was later tried for perjury for that testimony.
Since she was a plural wife, she spent much of her life between 1883-1892 living with relatives in Nephi, Utah and Snowflake to avoid the U.S. Marshall.

 Mary Ann Udall Stewart
Sister Stewart, the second daughter of David Udall and Eliza King, was born December 10, 1857, at Nephi, Utah.
While Brother Stewart was away she and her children went with relatives, by team and wagon, to St. Johns, Arizona.
Sister Stewart spent three years in Panaca, Nevada, where she went to place her two youngest children and several of her grandchildren in high school.

Tom Udall's father, Stewart, and Mark's father, Morris, were brothers who served in Congress.
