David Lidington - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Roy Lidington (born June 30, 1956) is a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom, and has been Member of Parliament for Aylesbury since 1992.
Mr Lidington was educated at Haberdashers' Aske's School, Elstree, and at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, where he took an honours degree in History and then a doctorate for research on Elizabethan history.
Michael Howard reduced the size of the shadow cabinet drastically on becoming leader of the opposition in November 2003, so, though he remained a shadow secretary of state, Lidington was not a member of the shadow cabinet.

Basildon & East Thurrock Conservatives - National News
Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary David Lidington has welcomed a major Government U-turn on controversial plans to grant an amnesty to paramilitary terrorist fugitives from the province.
He declared that Ulster Secretary Peter Hain had "done the right thing" after the minister bowed to pressure and abandoned legislation which would have allowed those still on the run and accused of committing terrorist crimes before 1998 to appear before a special tribunal, and then be freed on licence without the threat of imprisonment.
The Northern Ireland (Offences) Bill was misconceived, and opposed by all political parties in Northern Ireland and all the opposition parties in the House of Commons.

Conservative Future - News - Conservatives.com - Scaling down of Ulster security is premature
Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary David Lidington has voiced concern that the Blair Government is acting prematurely after plans were announced to reduce security in Northern Ireland.
Following the IRA's claim that it is ending the "armed struggle", Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Hain unveiled a two year programme to reduce the number of troops in the province from 10,500 to about 5,000, close down Army posts, defortify police stations, and pave the way for the repeal of Ulster's special counter-terrorist legislation.
Mr Lidington added: "Once there is clear evidence that republicans are matching words with deeds, the Government would be right to proceed with a programme of normalization.

At a fringe meeting at the Conservative Party conference in Blackpool yesterday, Shadow Northern Ireland spokesman David Lidington warned Mr Hain his party would oppose any scheme for on-the-run paramilitaries which did not factor in a role for the courts.
Mr Lidington also signalled the Tories would resist any government move which handed over the policing of republican or loyalist areas to those who had been active in paramilitary organisations.

David Liddington, Conservative spokesman on Northern Ireland, said the oath of loyalty to the Queen should be re-examined, if it would mean Sinn Fein MPs taking their seats in the House of Commons.
Mr Lidington said a general commitment to uphold the law and democratic politics could be considered as an alternative to the compulsory oath.
There are plenty of British MPs who treat the oath in a similar way, which make a mockery of the whole exercise in its present form.

/noticias.info/ Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary David Lidington today re-affirmed the Conservative Party's opposition to Government plans to scrap all forms of academic selection in Northern Ireland's schools.
At a meeting with the Parental Alliance for Choice in Education in Belfast, he said that the proposed ban on any form of selection in the Education Order was wrong and undemocratic.
The Conservative Party is fully behind the wishes of the vast majority of parents in Northern Ireland who wish to retain a form of academic selection — not the 11+ — and their existing schools' structure.
