 Teachers' Guide to American Art
This portrait can offer us a firsthand glimpse into the lives of the Mason children and children in general during the early colonial period. The children look far older than their years, but we know their exact ages which are inscribed next to their heads.
David in particular seems tall and unusually proportioned for an eight-year old, but all of the children have a stiff, erect bearing that modern viewers do not associate with childhood.
Not all of the residents of the Massachusetts Bay Colony were as prosperous as the Masons seem to have been, but the high regard for their children that the Masons demonstrated by commissioning this picture was probably not unusual.

Mason has asked the book to carry these different levels of discussion and he has worked assiduously to weave them together, but even the mighty topic of San-shin and the strength of mountains cannot hold up such an edifice.
The final chapter of David Mason's book is titled 'Future Prospects for the Mountain Spirit', and it is here that the author attempts to predict, indeed shape, the future trends of Korean society through his mobilisation of the San-Shin concept as the 'root-axial element' of traditional Korean culture.
Mason advances a final thesis that San-Shin will play a 'central role' in national reunification of North and South Korea, through the a revitalisation of this common cultural heritage of Dangun/San-Shin in North Korea and South Korea.

Campaign Finance: David M. Mason: Why Congress Can't Ban Soft Money
In this article David Mason explains soft money and the constitutional protection for political speech that prevents Congress from limiting it by legislating what can and cannot be done or said and how much money may be spent doing so.
From the view point of the authors of the bills Mason discusses, "soft" money, money that is not under the contribution and expenditures controls and reporting requirements of the federal government, is evil.
Mason's lesson is that this is a slippery slope and that what divides the players on the issue is whether they choose to stand atop the slope or slide right down to the mud at the bottom.
