Topic: David Mays

  :: BlackElectorate.com ::
Mays may seem to be an unlikely person to talk about the struggle and history of fls: He's a white graduate of Harvard University, although he talks hip-hop slang and looks the part.
Mays contends other whites are trying to take over the culture -- among his targets are MTV, Interscope Records chief Jimmy Iovine and white-owned radio -- but says he's respectful of the culture and trying to preserve it for its fl creators.
Mays believes negative articles questioning The Source's motives are ''plants'' made by hip-hop conglomerates, that fans who accept Eminem's apology are ''complacent,'' and that rap stars are afraid to speak out against a system that pays their bills.

David Mays said a lot of other stuff that kind of lead me believe that he and Benzino are more than a bit obsessed with Eminem.
It honestly seems as though Benzino and David Mays are one Eminem accusation away from being in straight jackets.

On Jan. 12, The Source plans to ship out 800,000 copies of a CD on which a young Eminem clumsily raps, "Black girls are dumb, and white girls are good chicks." This should be a major coup for the magazine — a world-famous white rapper uttering a racist phrase — yet somehow it isn't.
Ever since Mays, as an undergraduate at Harvard, founded the self-proclaimed "magazine of hip-hop music, culture and politics," ethics have been a sore spot.
