Pajo, who travels back and forth from his home in Louisville to his apartment in Manhattan, granted SLUG a candid look into the indie-rock legend’s life.
Pajo, who only recently began living in New York, admits that the city was very influential when it came to songwriting.

Pajo left Tortoise before the band embarked on an eight-month tour, in part because the self-described homebody wanted to return to his native Louisville, where he now lives less than a mile from his boyhood home.

From his home studio in Kentucky, Pajo took some time away from the recording of his latest Papa M opus to talk about the experiences that are shaping his current project, including his eye opening dalliance as a major label artist with Billy Corgan’s mainstream rock outfit Zwan.
For his shows in Australia, David Pajo will be performing with two of his friends as Papa M. He expects that he will play tunes from the Whatever Mortal album as well as songs that he is tweaking for the upcoming Papa M release.

Many of you probably know who Dave Pajo is. Others don’t know who Dave Pajo is but probably own an album he either played on or produced or had some effect or other on while being recorded.
He is one of the most prolific and, based on the various pseudonyms he has recorded under, one of the most schizophrenic musicians of our generation and he just released his follow-up album to Whatever, Mortal which was released, well, at least 3 or 4 years ago.
Like Howe Gelb, Steven Drozd, or Jim O’Rourke, Pajo’s musical wit and lyricism is strongly paralleled by his DIY ethics, you can tell in the creativity of the final products that this is a musician who learns from the most unique and creative music and really tries to make something new afterwards.

The 1990s was a completely different era for Pajo than it was for me. The guy released one of Chicago indie rock's all time classics-- Slint's Spiderland-- in 1991.
Of course, Pajo was way ahead of me now-- he'd just unleashed his full- length debut with M, under the Aerial M moniker.
Now, two months away from the year 2000, David Pajo's returned with the latest incarnation of M. The guy's going by Papa M these days.

May 20, 2005, 3:55 PM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. Fresh off his acclaimed reunion tour with iconic indie rock act Slint and the pending release of a solo album titled after his last name, David Pajo is already looking ahead to a new project.
Because he is opting not to tour in support of "Pajo," due July 12 via Drag City, the artist has formed a band jokingly titled Dead Child with Slint touring bassist Todd Cook and second guitarist Michael McMahan.
The drum stool will be filled by Tony Bailey, who previously played in the Pajo-led Aerial M. Pajo likens the music to the unabashed metal purveyed by recent Matador signee Early Man, with whom he has served as a live bassist at a handful of live shows over the past few months.

Slint's members were so young that they named their songs after their families and pets (the band got their name from drummer Britt Walford's goldfish, according to Punk Planet).

Live from a Shark Cage is, predictably, very mellow and very minimal.
