  David Renwick Biography
David Peter Renwick was born on 4 September 1951.
Renwick started to become disenchanted with journalism and began sending comedy sketches to broadcasters.
David Renwick's best known work, however, are series for which he was the solo creator and writer: One Foot in the Grave (1989-2000) and Jonathan Creek (1997-2003).

 Renwick v. Alaska Board of Marine Pilots (1/15/99), 971 P 2d 631
Renwick, 936 P.2d 526 (Alaska 1997) (Renwick I), we reversed the decision of the superior court and remanded the case with directions to remand to the Board for such further proceedings as may be appropriate.
Renwick opposed, arguing that he was seeking reconsideration of Renwick I and that Renwick I failed to address paragraphs 9-12 of his complaint.
Although the issues raised in Renwick's declaratory judgment action are virtually identical to issues raised before, but not decided by, the superior court in Renwick I, Renwick's claim for declaratory relief is not the same as the State's claim that Renwick's license should be summarily suspended.

 One Foot in the Grave
Renwick created the lead character, Victor Meldrew, with Scots actor Richard Wilson in mind, but Wilson initially turned down the role because he felt he was too young to play a sixty-year-old man. Luckily, he thought again and a new hero for the 1990s made his debut on 4 January 1990.
It is to Renwick's credit that he has occasionally been able to insert some moments of great pathos in which we learn a little more about Margaret and come to understand why she and Victor may be unable to live without each other.
Renwick has constantly tried to extend the boundaries of situation comedy, not only with the situations his characters have to face, but also within the confines of the 30-minute programme.

 Alaska Board of Marine Pilots v. Renwick (2/21/97), 936 P 2d 526
Renwick gave a number of commands in an attempt to free the anchor chains by slacking one chain and heaving on the other.
During the radio conversation between Captain Dundas and Renwick, Renwick stated that he was not going to be aboard the vessel if it grounded because "he couldn't afford it with his license problem." Captain Dundas asked Renwick if he would guarantee that he would stay with the vessel if it again moved into danger.
While the Board's decision that Renwick was not relieved of responsibility to remain "on duty" by the master's countermand is consistent with the common law, the Board's decision need not mirror the common law to be valid.

David Introduced the art student as the new Mick Jagger, playing down his own involvement in the recordings by claiming that he would simply be producing the songs.
David, on the other hand, began work for RCA almost immediately, and in November 1971 RCA America issued a promo single of two of the songs from his forthcoming album: "Eight Line Poem", which segued into "Bombers" (which, on the LP, would then have faded into David's own, inferior version of "Andy Warhol").
Indeed, as David moved into the crucial phase which was to see him transformed from space invader to plastic soul boy, his record sales reached a lower point than they had for two years - one reason, at least, being the dramatic change he was to undergo before the end of the year.

Victor Meldrew was the main character in the BBC 1 sitcom One Foot In The Grave, created by David Renwick and played by Richard Wilson.
The series was so successful that in the UK the term a Victor Meldrew has become shorthand for a bitter and complaining elderly man. This is a little unfair to the character, as the bizarre misfortunes that befell Meldrew would often be enough to exasperate anyone.
Renwick once pointed out in an interview that the name "Victor" was ironic, since he almost always ends up as a loser.

For Renwick the Caracas Energy Co-operation Agreement (CECA) with its cut- rate financing of purchases of Venezuelan crude oil and/ or refined products is the means being used to sign English speaking Caricom states to CECA thereby reducing Petrotrin’s market share of the Caribbean basin’s oil market.
What Renwick fails to point out is that President Chavez’s foray into CECA within the English speaking Caribbean is as a direct result of maritime boundary disputes with Guyana and Grenada.
The alarmist rhetoric of Renwick is an attempt to mask the reality that Venezuela insisted on determining the course of the exploitation of its energy resources we in Trinbago abdicated such responsibility and that the remnant of state involvement in the energy sector is dead in the water waiting to be knocked off.

Should we be praising David Renwick for attempting to write a JDC story in the 21st century or do we accuse him of being a modern day copycat?
My own opinion is that JDC wrote some classic detective stories which I love reading and Renwick is continuing the fine tradition but with modern twists.
Well, it would be a bit harsh to call David a 'copycat', as he openly admits the influence of JDC in interviews and is a huge fan of the writer (it would be akin to writing off JDC as a Poe or Doyle ripoff merchant).

 The Burkiss Way
It took more than a year for the second Half-Open University programme to appear in the schedules but it was eventually broadcast on 1-Dec-1976, also on Radio 3, but by then the first series of The Burkiss Way had been broadcast on Radio 4 and the second series was about to go out.
The shows were written by Andrew Marshall and David Renwick and produced first by Simon Brett 'of Stepney', then later by John Lloyd 'of Europe' and ultimately by David 'Hatch of the BBC' Hatch, who was previously known to fans of radio comedy from his appearances in I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again.
The then Controller of Radio 4 was so appalled at this lèse-majesty (more against her than the Queen Mum, I'd say) that when the programme was repeated it had had six minutes chopped out of it and they filled up the time with guitar music.
