David Schwarz (aviation inventor) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Schwarz (1852 1897) a Croatian aviation pioneer of Jewish ancestry.
Schwarz died shortly afterwards, before further testing was conducted, supposedly as a result of a heart attack which is attributed to the excitement of receiving a telegram from the German government informing him that his invention has been accepted.
This could have been one of David Schwarz airships since it was before Zeppelin's time.

Zeppelin - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
A Zeppelin is a type of rigid airship (or dirigible) pioneered by Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin in the early 20th century based in part on an earlier design by David Schwarz.
It was largely due to support by aviation enthusiasts that von Zeppelin's idea got a second (and third) chance and could be developed into a reasonably reliable technology.
In addition, sophisticated Zeppelins are the standard cargo lifter in David Gerrold's SF series The War Against the Chtorr.

David Schwarz Biography | World of Invention
In 1893 David Schwarz, an Austrian engineer, drew up plans for an airship which was constructed of an inside framework that was strong enough to support a gas envelope.
The structure was sheathed in aluminum foil (a new metal at this time) and shaped like a cannon shell, with measurements of 135 ft (41 m) in length, 46 ft (14 m) in diameter, and a volume of 130,000 cubic ft (3,640 cu.m).
The craft was not tested until after Schwarz's death in 1897 (which is said to have been caused by a heart attack when the Prussian Ministry of War offered to buy his invention).

Theorists saw a close relationship developing in aviation that would produce a pool of trained personnel who passed back and forth between the military and civilian sectors--mechanics, pilots, navigators, air traffic controllers, etc. In essence, there was an interdependence between the two sectors that was not present in armies or even navies.
The capability of an armored force, for example, did not rely on the automobile industry or the teamsters union to the same degree an air force was dependent on the aircraft industry and airline pilots associations.
Interestingly, not only have most air theorists had a single, key target theory, but they have also been surprisingly prescriptive: their target is the key in all types of wars, in all types of situations and against all types of opponents.
