David Settle Reid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
David Settle Reid (19 April 1813 - 19 June 1891) was a two-term Democratic governor of the U.S. state of North Carolina from 1851 to 1854 and a U.S. Senator from December 1854 to March 1859.
In 1850, Reid defeated Manly by 2,853 votes, returning the Democrats to the governor's office for the first time since 1836, when the state constitution changed so that the people, rather than the legislature, chose the Governor.
Reid was a member of a state constitutional convention in 1875.

Reid, who was then living in the Hogan's Creek area, purchased a farm on the ridge getween Wolf Island and Little Rroublesom creeks and in May, 1814 moved there with his wife Eliazbeth Settle Reid, and their young son, David Settle Reid.
Soon Reid opened a store across the road from his small log residence and also began operating an ordinary, a public inn kept in a private home.
Though the Reid establishment became a stop on the stage line, established in the early 1830's between Danville and Salisbury, little growth took place there until after the Civil War.
