The way I read his joke is not covered in racism as you see it David, but he's saying that an African American wouldn't attend a meeting of Republicans unless their job required it.

This is the best of the bunch for me. Johanna at Comics Worth Reading had done an awesome walkthrough of current and future titles at CMX, and from what I understand From Eroica with Love generated the same reaction from Immelda.
David also looks at Matoh’s new book Until the Full Moon, and I’m not sure I have the heart to tell Immelda that it’s not looking too good.!
And last but not least, David (again!) who writes the fabulous Flipped column on ComicWorldNews, has a new article on Manga: Sixty Year of Japanese Comics, well worth a read if you’ve got the chance.
