The English poet and dramatist Thomas Shadwell is known for his broad comedies of manners and as the butt of John Dryden's satire MacFlecknoe.
Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13 (April 2 according to the calendar used then), 1743, in Shadwell, Va. His parents were Peter Jefferson and Jane Randolph Jefferson.
The son of Lebanese immigrants, U.S. radio, screen, and television comedian Danny Thomas was born Muzyab Rakhoob on Jan. 6, 1914, in Deerfield, Mich. He starred in the 1950s and 1960s television situation comedy Make Room for Daddy (renamed The Danny Thomas Show in 1957), winning an Emmy award in 1955.
