David Trimble Speaker Profile at The Lavin Agency
Trimble was awarded the Nobel Prize for his role in negotiating the Good Friday agreement in Northern Ireland, which provided a formula for power-sharing in the civil-war torn province and set it on the path to the peace it currently enjoys.
Trimble's courageous and visionary decision, as the leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, to engage in dialogue and negotiation with his nationalist counterpart John Hume is rightly recognized as a decisive step in the resolution of this seemingly intractable conflict.
Trimble knows firsthand that peace often involves both tough, practical choices as well as a leap of faith, and he blends the very personal perspective of someone who made these choices and took that leap, with a broad-ranging inquiry into what can be done to create the climate for a more peaceful planet.

fenian32: David Trimble and 'THE COMMITTEE' - explained
When David Trimble, the leader of the Ulster Unionist Party accepted the Nobel Peace Prize, the world held it's breath, as he proceeded to address his audience with perhaps the most ungracious acceptance speech in the prize's history.
Trimble's speech was a concerted attack upon the Republican Movement and a return to the largely irrelevant issue of decommissioning as part of the Unionist's attempt to wreck the peace process from within.
Trimble's own political background would suggest however that any differences that might exist between him and the members of the Committee is as likely to be one of emphasis and presentation, rather than the ultimate objective.

DAVID TRIMBLE: It's a very important issue because what lies at this, in this issue, is the question of whether we're going to have a future decided by entirely peaceful and democratic means, or whether in the future we're going to be held to ransom by private armies.
DAVID TRIMBLE: Well, when I went to my members in November, and I said to them that I believed this was the best way to achieve what we all wanted, and we went ahead, trusting that the Republican movement would reciprocate, and they didn't.
DAVID TRIMBLE: Well, I'm just saying isn't it a shame that nearly six years after the cease-fires, they haven't been able to bring themselves to say that they have no intention of resorting to violence in the future.
