Vanian remained with the group throughout the years and, in 1995, issued his first-ever solo album, a self-titled release credited to Dave Vanian and the Phantom Chords.
Additionally, Vanian hosts his own TV show, Dave Vanian's Dark Screen, which features homemade horror movies sent in by viewers, in the U.K., and in 2004 the singer appeared on a live DVD by the re-formed MC5, Sonic Revolution: A Celebration of the MC5.

A studio album called "David Vanian and the Phantom Chords" was released in 1995.
The band made it through these gigs by telling the audience that Vanian had died and the gigs were a memorial to him.

It is rumoured that when Captain Sensible asked whether Vanian could sing, Vanian responded "yes" but had never sung a note in his life.
He is famous for bringing the gothic image to pop culture world, due to his wearing its apparel both onstage and off; although he does not personally make note of this.

David, I enjoy Lounge music (as it is now called) immensely when not frugging and swimming to the Now Sound that is The Damned.

Original members Dave Vanian (David Lett), Captain Sensible (Raymond Burns), and Rat Scabies (Chris Millar) were all members of the semi-legendary Masters of the Backside which included future Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde.
Vanian's deadpan intro — "Is she really going out with him?", originally from The Shangri-Las' 1964 "Leader of the Pack" — was later borrowed by Joe Jackson for the title of arguably his best-known song.
Likewise, Vanian's vocals had expanded from the high-baritone barks of the early records to a range including a smooth, proto-Gothic croon.

Often known (joking in a good natured way as he's known for) as the "Premier Drummer" for The Damned.
Was the only core member of The Damned to stay (besides David Vanian) to stay on every studio recording (except Grave Disorder, a feet of it's own merit!) the band completed, until the sessions for Not Of This Earth.
This inadvertently caused the reformation of Captain Sensible and David Vanian to sue Ratty and form the most stable line-up of The Damned without him.

According to David Vanian and others, the album was only meant to be a demo one and he refused to release it as The Damned (that's way David's vocals are very pedestrian.
There is very little energy, the tracks tend to sound the same and everyone is doing their own thing, even Dave Vanian on vocals doesn't save this one, he sings like he's a million miles away and rather disinterested in the whole project.
