The Parish of Daviot & Dunlichity Church is a rural charge, covering an area of roughly 25 miles west to east and 5 8 miles north to south.
Daviot Church dates from 1826 and is situated on a small hillock, locally known for generations (at least from the times of the old drove roads) as the 'Priest's Hillock'.
In Daviot West there is, of course, Daviot Church and Daviot Manse, Daviot School and the Strathnairn Hall, as well as one of the two quarries at Daviot.

A few hundred metres north of Daviot a sign on the road directs you to the stone circle, which is in state care.
The outlying stone to the west, azimuth 267.2°, altitude 2.5° gives a declination of +0.4° and is therefore close to the position of the setting sun at the equinoxes.

Because of its preservation and excellent presentation, Loanhead of Daviot is perhaps the "classic" surviving recumbent circle.
The site is in state care, and all of the features of the classic Aberdeenshire recumbent can be seen in this easily accessible ring.
The enclosed cremation cemetery which adjoins the circle was probably built later than this as ritual practices changed, and the circle fell into disuse.

 Friends of Grampian Stones - Survey at Loanhead of Daviot
There was an equal sized circle down in Daviot 1/2 mile in the opposite direction and one assumes that each circle a) took a lot of people to construct and b) judging by the activity revealed by the various surveys, served a lot of people as well.
It is possible that one group of people and their descendants built the three circles - moving their area of operations 1/2 mile north every 100 years or so - but this is extremely unlikely.
Note: Loanhead of Daviot is situated at grid reference NJ747288 on the outskirts of the village of Daviot near Inverurie in the Garioch heartland.

A location with a church and school in Strath Nairn, Highland Council Area, Daviot lies near the A9 road and the River Nairn, 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Inverness.
The settlement developed in association with its mill and in the 1890s a station nearby was temporarily the northern terminus of the Highland Railway's main line from Aviemore to Inverness.
Novelist Alistair MacLean (1922-87) was brought up in the Manse at Daviot, his father having served as the parish minister.
