 Fed Cup - History
Fed Cup is the premier team competition in women's tennis, launched in 1963 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the International Tennis Federation.
That first Federation Cup had attracted entries from 16 teams, a respectable number considering that there was no prize money and teams had to meet their own expenses.
Having seen the great success that the home-and-away format had achieved in Davis Cup, the format for the Fed Cup was changed in 1995 so that women, as well as men, could play for their country in their country.

Davis Cup: Sampras suffers as Americans are humiliated
AS SWEDEN celebrated their sixth winning of the Davis Cup in Gothenburg yesterday by completing a 5-0 triumph against the United States, Pete Sampras renewed his plea for what he would call a more player-friendly structure of the event - and a shortening of the international season.
A Davis Cup semi-final against Australia, the Compaq Grand Slam Cup, two top level indoor tournaments on carpet, the ATP Tour Championships and the Davis Cup final had meant an exhausting autumn nine weeks for the world No 1.
There is a fundamentally different approach to the Davis Cup in Sweden than in the United States, where, despite a fourfold increase in match fees this year (£60,000 a tie for singles players), tennis in general is the poor relation of so many sports in terms of public interest.

Belief Structure   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
In the interview accompanying the exhibition, Fabo addresses the contemporary notion of the 'death of originality', 'the death of authorship', a concept stemming from the critical thought of 20th century French theorists.
One of the aspects of this show is that it recognizes a move from a positivist view of geometry to a point where structure is used in subjective ways with a lot of associations.
The Belief Structure exhibition, it seems to me, is Fabo's response to the critical discourse in New York City, rather than a response to the work or the discourse of our local situation; and, from my view, this response implicitly accepts the centrality of New York's critical discourse.
