Davis Square is a neighborhood of Somerville, Massachusetts, located around the intersection of Holland Street, Dover Street, Elm Street, Highland Avenue, and College Avenue.
The Davis Square station is one of the stops on the Red Line of the MBTA.
Davis Square was in 1997 listed in the Utne Reader as one of the fifteen "hippest places to live" in the United States.

Porter Square is a neighborhood of Cambridge, Massachusetts in the USA, located around the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Somerville Avenue, between Harvard and Davis Squares.
Porter Square was named for the now-vanished Porter House Hotel, operated by Zachariah B. Porter, who also left his name to the hotel's specialty, the cut of steak now known as the porterhouse.
The square was an important center for commerce and light industry as early as the late 18th century, though it began a period of gradual decline during the Great Depression as residents began moving to more rural areas.

Davis Square is named in honor of the Davis family and the Lauritzen family, whose history is entwined with that of the Creighton family, Creighton University and the city of Omaha.
The Davis and Lauritzen families, along with First National Bank, were honored as Creighton officially unveiled the Davis Square name during a dedication ceremony Thursday outside the new residence halls at 21st and Webster streets.
Davis Square will be joined by two additional town squares and a student service center in the not too distant future.

This week the seafood restaurant Out of the Blue is scheduled to relocate to the heart of Davis Square in the spot where an independent boutique once did business -- a fitting symbol of the change the area is seeing.
According to several retailers and property managers, retailers are having a tough time in the square, and restaurants are starting to take their place; the square has seen at least four retail shops close their doors in the past 13 months, and the wheels are in motion for three new eateries.
Rocco Antonelli, who owns over 60,000 square feet of property in Davis Square, said retailers are not his first preference when looking for tenants.
