Davos is regarded as one of Europe's oldest mountain resorts.
Davos extends for almost 2.5 miles and is divided into Davos-Dorf and Davos-Platz and is located in Graubunden in the East of Switzerland on the Landwasser river.
Robert Louis Stevenson completed Treasure Island while resident at a Davos sanatorium in 1882 and Thomas Mann, the great German writer and Nobel Prize winner in Literature in 1929, spent time in Davos in 1911 where his wife was in a sanatorium.

Davos the city state flies dignitaries in and out (Dick Cheyney, Bill Clinton, the head of the World Trade Organization, the presidents of Pakistan and Iran, the Prime Minister of Canada, Bill Gates, Charlie Rose, etc.) In press accounts I saw it described as a “bunker,” due to the heavy security inside and out.
The city of Davos also exports a lot of news during its week on the world stage, and then imports its own importance, as it were, when the newspapers are picked up at breakfast the next day, featuring multiple headlines from the WEF.

But the organizers of "Public Eye on Davos" accused WEF members of paying only lip-service to issues such as corporate responsibility, sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
But Tauli-Corpuz called the NGOs' presence at the annual conference "tokenism at its worst." At the same time, she admitted that even though NGOs were limited to very few forums inside the meeting, she was still able to convey her group's message.
