Dawes County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska.
In the county the population was spread out with 21.20% under the age of 18, 23.40% from 18 to 24, 20.40% from 25 to 44, 20.30% from 45 to 64, and 14.80% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county was $29,476, and the median income for a family was $41,092.

 Charles G. Dawes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dawes was married to Caro Blymyer on January 24, 1889, and they had two biological children, Rufus Fearing Dawes and Carolyn Dawes, and two more adopted children, Dana McCutcheon and Virginia (Waller 1998: 273).
Dawes' lineage made him the great-grandson of the Revolutionary War figure William Dawes and the son of brigadier general Rufus Dawes, who during the U.S. Civil War had briefly commanded the Iron Brigade of Wisconsin.
Dawes was elected Vice President of the United States on November 5, 1924 with more popular votes than the the candidates from the Democratic and Progressive Parties combined (Hatfield 1997: 364).

 Dawes County
Dawes County is noted for it beautiful pine forest ridges and for being home to the historic Fort Robinson, the "Outpost of the Plains" that was established by the United States Army in 1874.
In the 1870s, the area that would become Dawes County was inhabited by two large divisions of the Sioux tribe.

A Prairie Dog Management Plan for Dawes County that was approved by the county commission in December makes prairie dog habitats and regulation solely the responsibility of the landowner.
The resolution states that landowners within the county who desire to have prairie dogs or critical habitat designations on their property, must contain the animals within their property boundaries.
If a landowner allows a prairie dog habitat to intrude onto their neighbor's land, against the neighbor's wishes, the county may be able to take action.

Its name would seem to secure it as the county seat of Dawes County but, unfortunately, it lost the election by a small margin.
When the Fremont, Elkhorn, and Missouri Valley Railroad arrived the next year, it stayed on the north side of White River so a new town called "Earth Lodge," after a large Sioux ceremonial lodge nearby, was platted near the railroad.
Dawes City residents promptly moved to the new town, taking along some of the original buildings.
