  Walter Netsch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
During his career, Netsch designed 15 libraries, as well as academic buildings for colleges and universities in the United States and Japan, including Grinnell College, Miami University, Wells College, Illinois Institute of Technology, Sophia University, Texas Christian University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, and University of Iowa.
Netsch has taught at several universities, received numerous awards and honorary degrees, and currently serves as a trustee at the Rhode Island School of Design and a member of the Board of Governors at Northwestern University Library.
Netsch is a collector and patron of the arts, along with his wife, Illinois politician Dawn Clark Netsch, to whom he has been married since 1963.

Netsch, the first woman to win statewide constitutional office and the first woman to seek the governorship, staked out a liberal position.
Netsch, with her "Iím all business" approach, never conveyed herself as "a nurturing woman who understood raising children, family and mothering." Unlike the 1992 election with "Anita Hill versus Clarence Thomas," this election had no single issue to mobilize a gender vote.
Ultimately, the situation Netsch faced was on how to portray herself in order to attract both men and women, or at least winning the support of women without losing the support of men.

Dawn Clark Netsch, the first woman elected to statewide office in Illinois, will receive the 2004 Ralph A. Dunn Public Service Award and deliver the annual Ralph Dunn Lecture on State Government, at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 18, in the law school auditorium.
Netsch, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Northwestern University, graduated first in her class from Northwestern University School of Law in 1952.
Netsch, who lives in Chicago, is a professor emeritus at Northwestern University School of Law.
