Charles Dawson "Daws" Butler (November 16, 1916 – May 18, 1988) was a voice actor born in Toledo, Ohio.
Daws Butler is interred in Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
The video Daws Butler: Voice Magician is a 1987 documentary of Butler's career from his pre-MGM days on up through his teaming with Freberg in 1949 and the teaming with Don Messick in 1957.

Daws, by contrast, did his most important roles in the era of limited animation where, if the character was only speaking, they only animated the mouth with an occasional eye-blink.
Daws did a few educational films for Disney but his only work for them in a mainstream film was years later — in Mary Poppins, for which he recorded two bit parts, as one of the penguins and as the turtle that carries Mary across a pond.
Daws and Stan were such strong performers, and the scripts were so clever (and peppered with frequent ad-libbing) that the show was a smash, not only with kids but adults, as well.

Daws was tapped for the voice of Captain Horatio Magellan Crunch.

Butler was born in Toledo, Ohio and spent his formative years in Oak Park, Illinois.
At Capitol Records in the early 1950s, Butler and Freberg co-wrote and co-voiced a comedy record takeoff on the TV show “Dragnet,”; called “St. George and the Dragonet.” Not only was Jack Webb flattered and amused by the record, but it was the first comedy record to sell more than a million copies.
One of Butler's star workshop students was Nancy Cartwright, later the voice of Bart Simpson on “The Simpsons.”; Daws Butler passed away on May 19, 1988 of a heart attack, having just completed three Yogi Bear films and 15 new half-hour Yogi Bear cartoon shows.

Though what Daws had to say, about my first creative effort, was not exactly flattering, coming from him I knew that he meant well.
I told Daws that my mother had agreed with some of the things that he had told me and he laughed and said, "Smart Lady!".

Bevilacqua's true calling was found in 1975, at age 16, when he wrote to Daws Butler, the voice of famous Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters, including Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, and Quick Draw McGraw.
Daws responded, and their correspondence blossomed into a 13-year mentorship, Joe serving as Daws' young apprentice.

A master of more than 100 vocal characterizations, Butler had previously worked with Hanna and Barbera at the MGM studios when the team was producing the extremely popular "Tom and Jerry" theatrical cartoons.
Calling himself "smarter than the average bear," Yogi was an inhabitant of Jellystone National Park, and the free-spirited bear was constantly busy pilfering picnic baskets, to the disapproval of his diminutive friend Boo Boo, as well as that of the generally good-natured Ranger Smith.
Voiced by Daws Butler, Yogi resembled Art Carney's Ed Norton, from "The Honeymooners" series, from his vocal attributes to his pork pie hat with the tilted brim.
