The Day We Forgot to Live
I stepped outside into a perfect September day; the sunshine mocked the emptiness and despair of that day.
We forgot to live our lives the way we have always lived them.
It didn't matter if you had a major that day at UMass, or how much money was in your checking account, or what the price of yogurt was - that was the day that was cancelled.

Bullz-Eye.com - CD Reviews - Pete Yorn: Day I Forgot
What we’ve come to learn with the very accomplished new Day I Forgot, however, is that a record like Musicforthemorningafter falls from the heavens but once in a great while.
On the surface, Day I Forgot could be taken for the leftovers from Musicforthemorningafter sessions.
Day I Forgot does tend to fade during the second half, but dismissing gems like the quirky “Burrito” or subtle “Man in Uniform” would be a gross mistake.

The first day, I forgot to mention, was like mid-winter for cold, and rained incessantly so hard that the livid white of our cold- pinched faces wore a sort of inflamed rash on the windward side.
Now, to-day the blue sky and the sunshine were both entirely wintry; and there was about the hill, in these glimpses, a sort of thin, unreal, crystalline distinctness that I have not often seen excelled.
To-day has been cloudy and mild; and I have lain a great while on a bench outside the garden wall (my usual place now) and looked at the dove-coloured sea and the broken roof of cloud, but there was no seeing in my eye.

Pete Yorn passes sophomore test with 'Day I Forgot'
"Day I Forgot" is characterized by the same melancholy sound and catchy choruses and guitar riffs, but the songs are much more energetic than on Yorn's debut.
While his debut album had many ballads and slower songs, "Day I Forgot" is filled with pop rock guitar riffs with the occasional rocker thrown in.
The lyrics on "Day I Forgot" are for the most part very personal and capture a certain feeling, but on some tracks the lyrics get incredibly silly.

Pete Yorn: Day I Forgot - PopMatters Music Review
Two years later, we have Day I Forgot, a tight set of 13 songs which he co-produced with R. Walt Vincent and Scott Litt, who has worked with everyone from Carly Simon to R.E.M. The album is much more conservative than Yorn's debut, and in many ways more ordinary.
Day I Forgot begins with a short intro, recorded with an audio quality that is similar to "Life on a Chain".
Day I Forgot ends with the sound of Yorn alone in a room.

Day I Forgot is Pete Yorn’s followup to his 2001 debut, musicforthemorningafter.
Day I Forgot reflects Yorn’s passion for the musical past, and is further proof that he has a fantastic sense of classic pop craftsmanship.
While the infectious melodies are sustained, the psychedelic guitars flourish and the beats swing, Day I Forgot has a textural maturity that his debut album lacked.

Day I Forgot - Pete Yorn - Music Reviews
Day I Forgot, Yorn's sophomore effort, scales back the Smiths-influenced guitar work, scratchy-old-record sound effects, and delicate acoustic balladry in favor of a more straightforward approach.
After the unnecessary 47-second opener, "Intro," Day I Forgot buds off to an impressive start with "Come Back Home" and "Crystal Village," a pair of the upbeat yet desperate rockers that will remind Yorn's audience why they started listening to his work.
Ultimately, Day I Forgot lacks the emotional poignancy and experimental sonic character present on every track of Musicforthemorningafter, which was so intricately detailed that repeated listens were not only rewarding, but mandatory.

Equally informed by John Mellencamp and The Smiths, the disc sounded slick and radio-friendly in all the right ways, and ultimately gave the photogenic singer-songwriter the sort of slow-burning star status that 20-year careers are made of.
But unlike its predecessor, Day I Forgot falters noticeably in spots, derailing its momentum early on with the tune-deficient "Carlos (Don't Let It Go To Your Head)" and burdening its closing moments with back-to-back dreary ballads.
Day I Forgot isn't a catastrophic step backward, but it's no step forward, either.

And while the new tunes don't burn any new directions and are somewhat predictable, the catchy, hook-laden Day I Forgot does confirm that there is nobody making pop records for people who don't like pop records better than Pete Yorn.
Throughout, Yorn's message is packed into mini sound bytes that are hardly inspiring in their own right, but when wrapped into the singer's desperate rock n' roll hooks, the fact that its "a long way down", or "all at once", or "just for a little while" seems damn important.
Day I Forgot is a straightforward rock album with loads of poppy grooves that is immediately listenable.

Pete Yorn is a New Jersey (USA) singer-songwriter who made more than a few ripples in the music pool with his critically acclaimed debut album, “musicforthemorningafter”.
“Day I Forgot” is Yorn’s second album, and although apparently not as good as the first, it’s definitely worth a listen.

DAY I FORGOT picks up on the promise of singer/songwriter Pete Yorn's debut MUSICFORTHEMORNINGAFTER with its 14 self-penned songs.
Yorn also shines when he touches on the mind-numbing routine that everyday life can become (a chiming "Man in Uniform") and taking to task someone who tossed aside a loving relationship (the off-kilter "When You See Light").
With DAY I FORGOT, Yorn has once again penned a passel of songs not soon to fade from memory.

I find a lot of similarities between Pete Yorn’s “Day I Forgot” and Springsteen’s third album, “Born to Run.” More than they are both Colombia recording artists, they share that homespun American singer/songwriter place on your CD rack.
Their songs can fill your heart with love when you are depressed and melancholy, or the same song can fill the car with happy energy on a road trip.
Yorn doesn’t need to save rock and roll, so there isn’t a challenge for his album, “Day I Forgot.” And that’s too bad, because he is a promising young songwriter with a lot of potential, much like a young Bruce Springsteen, who needed the right producer to spend two years with him, creating a masterpiece.
