Groundhog Day (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Groundhog Day is a 1993 comedy film and box office hit starring Bill Murray as Phil Connors, an egocentric Pittsburgh weatherman who, dreading his hated annual assignment covering Groundhog Day from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, finds himself repeating the day over and over.
Groundhog Day is a tale of self improvement, to look inside oneself and realize that the only satisfaction in life comes from turning outward and concerning yourself with others rather than concentrating solely on ones own wants and desires.
Groundhog Day begins afresh for Connors each morning (starting with his waking up to the same song, Sonny and Cher's I Got You Babe, on his alarm clock radio), but with his (and only his) memories of previous instances of the day intact.

Fans of the film counter that there is nothing wrong with nationalistic sentiment, while it's true that only the planet's most advanced state would have the potential to stand against an alien invasion, although they acknowledge that it could limit potential audiences.

 DVD Review: Independence Day
"Independence Day" is a fun movie, and it knows that it isn't anything more than what it is; I think it has a good sense of humor and although there are some slow moments during the middle section, the majority of the film moves along with a rapid clip.
I'll always remember the time I saw "Independence Day" in a local theater that was playing the film 24 hours a day during the first week.
In case you are one of the few who has not seen this picture at this point (I'd be suprised if there are any...), "Independence Day" revolves around a band of nasty alien creatures who arrive in major ships that proceed to hover over many of the major cities across the world.

It is an important film, but not for the reasons you may expect.

Although the film does have its flaws, which are mostly dramaturgic in nature, everyone who has seen it would certainly agree that it is a spectacular, bombastic, fun filled and highly entertaining ride.

He also features in the film's most amusing scene, where he drags the now-unconscious alien across the Nevada desert in his parachute, stopping every now and again to give it a swift kicking, so pissed is he that his 4th July holiday has been ruined.
Independence Day will be the science fiction event that captures the imagination of a generation, in the same way that Star Wars did in the 1970s and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial did in the 80s.
While Independence Day may not be the most intellectually stimulating piece of cinema you will ever see, and though the plot doesn't stand up to close scrutiny, it is undoubtedly an incredible, fantastical ride through three momentous days in human history.

 SALON: Movies: Independence Day
"Independence Day" provides one, filling the Oval Office with a Gulf War fighter-pilot hero (Bill Pullman) who -- once colossal alien ships start darkening the skies of Earth-- serves as a cross between JFK during the Cuban missile crisis and Churchill during the Battle of Britain.
One encouraging sign: The crowd I watched the film with, which sat silently as the White House and the Capitol got flattened, finally erupted with cheers at a crack about the Pentagon's $20,000 hammers.
So when the summer blockbuster "Independence Day" comes along, with its drama of confrontation with overpoweringly hostile alien invaders, it's tempting to speculate about a millennial, species-wide death wish, or to postulate a yearning for some global challenge that might unite a squabbling humanity in some common noble endeavor.

But in the case of Independence Day, an appropriate outrage was unleashed in response to the album, primarily for two reasons: First, the film is a juggernaut in length, and therefore that one-half of unreleased material constitutes a whole CD in its own.
While the film was a popular success rather than a critical one, almost any critic will agree that David Arnold's immense score was far superior and, in some cases, the film's saving grace.
