Review: Day of the Tentacle   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
In a quest to stop Purple Tentacle's inevitable conquest of the world (and to save their own hides) three unlikely heroes will travel across time to halt the Day of the Tentacle.
Day of the Tentacle never has a boring moment, at least puzzle-wise, so I give the puzzles an A. Day of the Tentacle is based on LucasArts's SCUMM verb/noun interface, so the gameplay is very stable.
That aside, the animations in Day of the Tentacle are wonderful and the graphics are crisp and colorful despite their age.

In the unlikely event that I ever teach a class in adventure game design, I think I would start the students off with Day of the Tentacle, so they could see exactly how it's supposed to be done.

Playing Day of the Tentacle on Windows XP   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
You can find the original CD for DOTT in second-hand stores, and Lucasarts has released it on CD and (I believe) on DVD-ROM - but in all cases they've not updated it to run on Windows, and it generally needs some coaxing to work properly.
Windows XP does a pretty good job of emulating a ten-year old DOS platform, at least as far as gameplay and graphics go, but it doesn't do a good job emulating the antique sound hardware of that era.
I've not figured out a straightforward fix for this, as the DOTT executable also looks in that same current drive for game files.
