Day sailer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A day sailer or dayboat is a small sailboat without sleeping accommodations but which is larger than a dinghy.
Many dayboats have a small cabin or "cuddy" for storage and to provide a little shelter, but this is generally not large enough to stand in and certainly not to sleep.
The distinction between keelboats and day sailers is not always clear; generally the former term indicates a greater concern for speed and performance, with an eye to racing, whereas "day sailer" implies a comfortable and pleasant day out.

Sailer and teammate Kevin Ellis were each safely on the tricky island green in one, and coach Mark Ott had visions of victory dancing in his head when he intercepted his two guys as they prepared to haul out their putters.
Sailer listened real well, rolling a 60-foot downhill putt, super-slow, right into the middle of the cup for a birdie, essentially sealing the Falcons' playoff victory and advancing FHS to the region tournament Oct. 4.
It capped a topsy-turvy day of erratic golf for the Falcons, who finished well behind first-place Battlefield (325), and were somewhat fortunate to fall into a second-place tie with Osbourn Park at 346.

For Paul Sailer, the essence of all his words is concealed in the cells along a pastel furrow of brain tissue behind his ear, just to the left of the surgeon's probe.
On this day, Sailer, 32, lies on an operating table with his head clamped firmly in a surgical vise, in a subbasement of the UCLA Medical Center.
It reveals the cells in Sailer's brain that are responsible for language--"eloquent cells," his surgeon calls them--as a constellation of pinpoints of light; the tumor as a shadow across a swath of brain tissue.

It seems clear this is what Pearson had in mind—a little family cruising boat or day sailing in a boat that could accommodate 4 comfortably—and beat the pants off the competition from time to time.
The Pearson 30 was an attempt to meld the attributes of racing boats with those of family cruisers—sort of like rigging a mini-van to race at Indy.
This is not the easiest task but Pearson was a pioneer in the racer/cruiser concept and racing boat design theory of her day can be seen in the raked, fin keel, spade rudder, her narrow beam and angular hull form.
