Daylight Dies are one of those bands that burst out from nowhere, with their own sound, style and ideology fully realised and functioning.
Daylight Dies neatly bypassed this and appeared fully formed on their debut release "No Reply", which although not opaque in its influences certainly was not contiguous with the act of jumping on any kind of bandwagon or conforming to any kind of scene ideals.
Therein lies a clue to the true Daylight Dies aesthetic, at times extremity is in evidence but always with a sense of taste and a keen ear for the musical as opposed to ever being extreme for the sake of it.

 SSW - Daylight Dies
When North Carolina's Daylight Dies started as a project of Barre Gambling and Jesse Haff in 1996, little did they know the vehicle they created together would blossom into one of metal's most promising upstarts.
Due to geographical constraints, Barre and Haff's Daylight Dies were delayed three years before an initial rough compilation of raw ideas surfaced as 'The Long Forgotten Demo.' It wasn't until a year later that the two core members would add a permanent vocalist in the form of Guthrie Iddings.
With 'Lost to the Living', Daylight Dies have put forth the most mature and varied album of their career.

Metal Reviews - Review of Daylight Dies - Lost To The Living
That somber reflection --built upon a gloriously textured bass line-- is the undisputed highlight of this tome, Nathan Ellis straying from his knifetoothed roar long enough to ply his fantastic cleans, which are made all the more special by their sparse utilization.
This is the best Daylight Dies album to date, an exponential improvement upon their foundation, and a dramatic strengthening of their identity.
Outwardly classy, inwardly raw, Lost to the Living is an emotionally draining tour-de-force that commands unchallenged attention; Daylight Dies mold an experience, a trancedental grip that eclipses any-and-all trappings their subgenre harbors.

InternetEd Reviews: Daylight Dies- No Reply   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Musically, Daylight Dies uses slow to mid-paced guitar riffs with pounding rhythms and intricate guitar leads to construct a sound that is full of sorrow and tempered with metal viciousness.
The vocals are of an unvarying raw snarling style similar to that of Moonspell and Opeth—unfortunately, the vocals do tend to distract from the sorrowful nature of the music after a short time.
Overall, Daylight Dies’ No Reply is an impressive metal album with a great blend of technicality and emotion, although the unvaried vocals can become tiresome.
