		Purgatory has suffered from a number of abuses in the past, chiefly the misuse of indulgences.
		Many souls have been privileged to have glimpses of Purgatory, the most famous being St. Catherine of Genoa (1447-1510), who says in her Treatise on Purgatory that there is no barrier between souls in Purgatory and their union with God save the remains of sin, from which they must be purified.

		The "days" referred to are days spent on earth doing some penance that was formerly prescribed, like say, wearing sackcloth, etc.; the indulgence granted was formerly expressed in days, like an "indulgence of 300 days".
		So the church does not say that Purgatory involves the same kind of time as we experience here on earth (knowing there are different kinds of "time" such as earthly time, eternity, etc.), or even time at all.
		Purgatory is the final stage of sanctification, the sanctification without which no one will see God (Heb 12:14).

		From what I understand, Days of Purgatory is a reworking of older Iced Earth demo material with their '97 lineup.
		Barlow also re-recorded old IE tracks on Days of Purgatory, and in my opinion, his renditions are far superior to those of the first two vocalists.
		The songwriting is vastly improved from the old days, and this album is roughly in a similar ilk to Something Wicked, but with a few more added elements and a better execution of melody.

		The full length version of Days of Purgatory is available only through Europe or Century Media mail order and features 2 discs worth of material (though there is only six songs difference between it and the American edition).
		Rather than new material, Iced Earth have chosen to re-record songs from their first three albums (plus a few demo tracks) that they felt could be improved upon with the superiority of their current lineup.
		Days of Purgatory is a perfect example of how to stay true to metal without becoming derivative.
