Change the song up a bit and you can probably get a full-fledged country number (then again The Replacements would often play their balls-to-walls punk rock song "Goddamn Job" as a country number so maybe the fact that it can be converted to a country song doesn't mean much).
After The Days of Wine and Roses, a few things important events took place: Kendra Smith left the band to form Opal (which would later evolve into Mazzy Star, without Smith however) with the Rain Parade’s David Roback, and was replaced by Dave Provost on bass duties.
The VU/Stooges inspired sound of Days is timeless or, at the very least, timely and trendy at the present, since everyone and their grandmother seems to have a VU/Stooges style band nowadays.

Concluding with the epochal title track, which builds to a frenetic climax not once but twice, The Days of Wine and Roses is a grand treat.

Days of Wine and Roses: review on TheaterMania.com
J.P. Miller's Days of Wine and Roses really must have been something when it was first produced on television in 1958 as part of the Playhouse 90 series (starring Cliff Robertson, Piper Laurie, and Charles Bickford) and then as a feature film in 1962 (starring Jack Lemmon, Lee Remick, and Bickford again).
Although the program and press materials are unclear on the matter, this is a stage adaptation written by Miller himself some time after the property was presented successfully on TV and as a film.
Days of Wine and Roses is certainly timeless in that alcoholism remains a serious problem leading to a great deal of misery, but the Boomerang Theatre Company's strong staging would have been even stronger if it were more definite as to when the story is happening.

DAYS OF WINE & ROSES BY EMILE PANDOLFI
In every great movie, especially those that pack an emotional impact like a romance or a poignant drama, there is often a central musical theme that makes the film more memorable.
It's those soundtrack themes that Emile Pandolfi pays tribute to with his album DAYS OF WINE & ROSES.
With each piece, the pianist provides the perfect amount of flourish and technique to make the song come alive in a new way, while capturing the tenderness that made the tune a classic in the first place.

The DVD Journal | Quick Reviews: Days of Wine and Roses
When the opportunity arose to make a film version of J. Miller's powerful TV drama Days of Wine and Roses, actor Jack Lemmon suggested that the studio hire Blake Edwards (according to Edwards, that is) rather than the Playhouse 90 production's original director, John Frankenheimer.
Lemmon was nominated for an Oscar, but lost to Gregory Peck for To Kill a Mockingbird — Days won only for the overproduced theme song.
Meanwhile, the DVD version of Days of Wine and Roses has the distinction of offering one of the worst audio commentary tracks of all time.

DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES, originally issued in '63, was Williams's most successful album, and it spent weeks at BILLBOARD's top spot, remaining on the charts for 107 weeks.
The 12 songs here, which include "What Kind of Fool Am I?," a jazzy take on "You Are My Sunshine," the hit single "Can't Get Used to Losing You," and the title track, feature spare, brassy arrangements that sound like a nightclub performance.
These recordings are a testament to Williams's sterling reputation as an interpreter of popular songs.

This is a pretty simple song to bump dit-ty along with because in the first six measures you are just playing your open G chord then one measure of C and one last measure of G.
The next song we are going look at is an old fiddle tune called "Ragtime Annie." In the first three measures all you have to do is hold your C chord and hammer-on the third string at the second fret.
Take a look at the next song "In The Pines." The structure of this tune is very close to "Who's Gonna Shoe Your Pretty Little Foot" You are playing a 3/4 time G, C and D7 chord progression in both songs but they sound very different from one another.

CD Baby: EMILE PANDOLFI: Days Of Wine And Roses
Once you've heard Pandolfi's presentation of a song, it will be difficult for you to imagine it any other way.
Partly, this results from his own imagination: he is able to listen to music and lyrics with such freshness, even to the punctuation of lyrics, that he understands what many of us pass over.
Critics call Emile Pandolfi's music "luxurious arrangements with an ethereal quality;" that he plays in a "free-flowing, emotional manner that seems to go to the music's very soul." (Stereophile Magazine) While keeping the melody uppermost, this solo pianist applies his classical technique to Broadway and Popular Music alike, all in addition to his classical performance.

dOc DVD Review: Days of Wine and Roses (1962)
In the great pantheon of movies about alcoholism, Days of Wine and Roses deserves a prominent stool at the bar, alongside such other classics in the genre as The Lost Weekend and Leaving Las Vegas.
As is true of the leading man, the director, Blake Edwards, may have been better known for his comedies—these days, we're more likely to think of him as the man who made the Pink Panther movies, or Victor/Victoria.
But his shooting style is largely unobtrusive, and he's clearly not one to rein in his actors, especially when they're served up with some of the ham in J. Miller's script.
