  SHARPENING INSTRUCTIONS
The purpose of the oil is to float the metal removed from the blades to the surface of the stone and prevent the pores and cutting surface from being clogged.
When using D.M.T. diamond sharpening stones (which are very light), we recommend placing a weight, no more than 6 lbs., on top of the stone to apply even pressure along the length of the blades, again to preserve the rocker.
To ensure even wear of the diamond stones, move the stone lengthwise in a parallel direction along the length of the blades while gradually moving it sideways as you sharpen.

Method for correcting abrasion in a robot having a wearing tool mounted thereon - Patent 4926604
Burring by way of a grind stone using a robot has been rarely practiced because the correction of abrasion of the grind stone involves a problem.
In this burring apparatus, the work carrier devices 8a and 8b are secured to left and right sides, respectively, of the robot 6, and the burring operation for works 2 is alternately carried out by a grind stone 1 of the robot.
In the actual burring operation, the worn amount of the grind stone 1 is measured once a cycle or a few cycles of the burring operation, and shifting is effected at the coordinate system H.sub.T set to the grind stone 1 mounted to the wrist 3 of the robot 6 to correct the worn amount.

Prong Setting   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-01)
On round stones, marking the prongs is usually not necessary because the girdle of most round stones is fairly even all the way around the stone.
The trick to cutting the prongs on large stones without the bur running around the prong is to rest the prong on the bench block.
If the stone has a thick girdle, you will need to walk the bur up and down the prong just slightly so that when you set the stone, the prong will wrap around the girdle instead of pinching it; which would result in a gap between the prong and stone.

Preferably, the means for moving the block of stone comprises at least one carriage movable along parallel rails which extend between the upright supports in a direction normal to the cutting edge of the saw-blade.
Where the stone lamina to be cut is not required to exceed much more than two feet (about 70 cm) in width then it may be severed from the stoneblock using a diamond-toothed circular saw arranged to cut in a vertical plane.
The blocks of stone are mounted on their sides on the block carriages with the surfaces to be cut lying in a vertical plane.

 Recommended sharpening jig & stone? - www.ezboard.com
And with a stone, I've heard that if you have a continuous diamond stone, you don't need to worry about it grooving really at all, so you don't have to go diagonal (like some people recommend to prevent grooving of the stone).
Norton, or other stones are great when they are new, but as they get worn need to be eighter reground to level or replaced.
I was planning on purchasing the coarse stone, along with the medium and fine stones, but I think I might just go with the medium and fine for now, and get the coarse later.

The ball bur should be large enough so the point of the stone will not make contact with the prong; but small enough as not to deform the cut made with the bearing bur too much.
It may be necessary to angle the bur in toward the prong to get enough clearance for the pavilion of the stone.
Once the stone is set securely and there are no gaps between the prong and stone, you can finish the prongs so they wont be sharp or snag on clothing.

Advice wanted - marble, granite, slate, sandstone, limestone,
To determine if your stone needs to be sealed, spill some water onto it and see if, after a couple of minutes or less, the areas where the water has been dwelling have (temporarily) become any darker.
Most people over here expect their stone to look like brand-new all the time, and any "change" is not considered "aging", but a damage that needs to be rectified.
If you apply an impregnator/sealer in the stone you will not solve your problem one bit: in fact the sealer will only prevent liquids from being absorbed by the stone (which in the case of fl honed granite is an unlikely event to begin with), not the staining of its surface.

The long axis of the stone must always be perpendicular (90 degree angle) to the blades at all times during your stroke.
Start with the stone at the end of the blades nearest you, and with the stone offset to the left or right so that it overhangs one of the blades by about an inch.
It is very important that you only use the weight of the stone to sharpen the skates and not press down on the stone with your fingers.
