That said, De La Soul hasn't changed much -- that is, as long as you recognize that these aren't the Daisy Age plugs who goofed around about potholes in their lawn and getting kicked out of the house -- but their attitude towards what they're doing has snapped back into attack mode.
From the beginning chant about De La being the past, present and future, to the abrasive final track (which slams into the end of the disc like the end of a life), the main point of the album seems to be confirming the group's place in rap history.
And going out, after De La ended its last record (and has concluded a few of its albums previously) with its most compelling and stirring track yet in "Trying People", the snarling "Rock Co.Kane Flow" turning off this album is a slug of fearsome caliber.
