His latest model was De Tomaso Guara, presented in 1994 with a 309 bhp engine; top speed was 274 km/h.
De Tomaso (lived 1928 - 2003) was involved in other ventures such as Innocenti, producing small compact cars.

The first De Tomaso produced in anything like significant numbers, the Mangusta, introduced in 1966, was also the first to be developed in association with Ford, a firm which was to have a decisive influence on De Tomaso's early life.

The Vallelunga coupe was built from early 1964 by Fissore of Savigliano, but after three (some say five, but just one survivor is known) had been made De Tomaso transferred the contract to Ghia over whom he had begun to exercise influence, assuming control by 1967.
The De Tomaso-Cortina used the same tuning pack as the Vallelunga with twin 40 DCOE Webers on appropriate manifolds and a ribbed alloy De Tomaso rocker cover; upgraded suspension and servo-assisted brakes helped to deal with the claimed maximum speed of 112 mph.
Alessandro de Tomaso, an expatriate Argentinean, had moved to Italy in the Fifties and began a racing career that dovetailed with the fortunes of OSCA.

According to the founder's narration, the symbol of De Tomaso stands for the iron tool used to brand horses in his "estancia", while its colours are those of Argentinian flag.
In October 1963 De Tomaso became well-known to the public rolling out at Turin Motorshow the spider "Vallelunga", equipped with a central backbone chassis, which is the same peculiarity we can find in other DeTomaso products, such as "Mangusta", "Guarà", and in Lotus Elan and Alpine A110 as well.
In 1972 De Tomaso was second at Gran Turismo championship, thanks to Mike Parkers and Clay Regazzoni's racesses in Imola and Hockenheim respectively.

Alejandro de Tomaso was born in Argentina in 1928.
One thing de Tomaso should be recognized for is his support of mid-engine cars.  Having the engine behind the driver and ahead of the rear axle helped balance the handling of the car and reduced the heat.
It was solely designed by de Tomaso and his people.  Ford engineers got involved only in the areas of mass production and cost analysis, not design.

In 1963, De Tomaso completed the first of his own sports cars and named it after the Rome race track he frequently used for testing.
Specially prepared in Modena to produce 105bhp, De Tomaso’s claimed top speed of 137mph required a pinch of salt but this featherweight roadster would undoubtedly have provided exhilarating performance on road or track.
De Tomaso went to Carrozzeria Fissore for the Spider’s bodywork, the Savigliano firm designing and fabricating a portly aluminium shell that mimicked Ferrari’s gorgeous TR.

I think de Tomaso can build these two cars if they look at keeping costs down by using mazda parts on the vallelunga and how about a high performance northstar engine in the new Pantera with a 6 speed tranny.
These cars will be sought after by de Tomaso enthusiasts as well as those outside of the de Tomaso circle if if they are a pleasure to look at and offer components that can be inexpensively serviced and replaced easily.

Since this is the race track that the Vallelunga car was named after, I was hoping to get some good souvenirs.
While not as intriguing as a De Tomaso Vallelunga car, it would be nice to have one of these also.
And by all means, if you can obtain, or have heard of ANY Vallelunga souvenirs, definitely let me know...I already got a few pieces from someone that had a connection with the track and he was nice enough to send them to me!

De Tomaso Modena S.p.A was founded in 1959, The first production car was the Vallelunga, (only one in UK) then the Mangusta, (about 8 in UK) then the only 4 door saloon car the Deauville and the 2 door Longchamp upto 1988.
Most Panteras have the 351C similar to the Mustang and in various states of tune from 300bhp upto 700bhp with superchargers and turbochargers, fuel injection or Webers and special exhausts.
