SoundStage! Equipment Review - deHavilland Verve Preamplifier (2/2003)
The deHavilland Beaver was a small, affordable, dependable, easy-to-fly aircraft that helped fuel the aviation explosion in the middle of the last century.
The one item of interest on the rear is the small toggle switch marked Ground and Float that allows you to either connect the preamp's audio circuit to your home's grounding scheme via the third prong on the power cord or to float the ground.
I was initially concerned that deHavilland may have tamed the Verve's top end a bit, but the more I listened, the more I came to the conclusion that the treble was just fine.

As an aside, deHavilland included a potentiometer on the 845 chassis at first, which let you add varying amounts of negative feedback.
(Note: After the amplifiers were returned to deHavilland, they mentioned that the output is phase-reversed, and they have the red output post as ground and the fl output post as hot.
Having been used to the limitations of 300B triodes, but loving their sound, I was delighted to be able to audition the deHavilland 845 with its much higher power.

6moons audio reviews: DeHavilland Ios 845 Stereo Amplifier
DeHavilland does not believe in active power supply regulation to keep their high voltages as confined as possible.
DeHavilland's approach from conception has always been to design amplifiers that were far less fussy about special speaker diets.
In closing, the DeHavilland Ios is the Clydesdale in the S.E.T. stable.

Addison Aircraft - DeHavilland DASH 7
The deHavilland Canada DHC-7 (DASH-7) was the first STOL Aircraft certified according to FAR25 criteria for transport-category aircraft.
City centre STOL ports did not materialise as expected and there simply were not enough routes to remote airfields with short runways that would still generate enough traffic to justify use of a 50-seater.
This effect is enhanced by the adjustment of the propellers which produce drag rather than thrust at flight idle.

The deHavilland GM70 maintains all the virtues and more of our highly acclaimed deHavilland Aries 845-G. With double the power output we achieve lower distortion at normal listening levels and greater headroom that can be imagined for a SET design.
The deHavilland GM-70 amplifier produces 60 watts, and is designed to drive medium, as well as high efficiency speakers.
At deHavilland, we are serious when we say that we want more listeners to be able to experience the beauty of single-ended vacuum tube sound, making this type of pre amplifier available to a much wider range of listeners -- that's our story.

Peering through the glass envelope is a massive anode machined out of a solid block of graphite and rated up to 100 watts of dissipation.
Though keep in mind that the actual results you obtain with any amplifier will depend on the quality of the front end, and in particular, that of the associated pre-amplifier.
deHavilland's new line stage, the Verve (review in progress), mates tonally very well with the Aries, and is highly recommended in this context.

 FlightSim.Com Review: DeHavilland D.H. 89A Dragon Rapide
DeHavilland's chief designer wanted a 'bigger Tiger Moth' so that he could transport himself and his family to Hamble on the weekends, in turn so that they could maintain their position within British Clubland's yachting set.
Hillman for a bigger aeroplane, led deHavilland's to the DH 86 Express, which today would be considered a stretch of the basic design.
The Rapide does not have tailskid - but deHavilland, in their wisdom made the tailwheel speed-ratcheted, and the aeroplane is able to stop on half the runway with the tailwheel down.

Created by Geoffrey deHavilland, these planes had been built both in England and the United States during the last years of the war.
Although the airplanes range (350 miles) and load capacity (500 pounds) were good, deHavillands were not suited for the rigors and demands of airmail service, having been built for high-altitude military observation use.
When the retrofitted deHavillands (now known as DH-4B) were returned to service, the improvements proved enormously successful.

SoundStage! Equipment Review - deHavilland Aries GM70 Mono Amplifiers (6/2004)
This is good news for audiophiles who do not warm up to the sound of horns or single-driver speakers, but bad news for their bank accounts, as many of these higher-power SET amplifiers are also high-priced amps as well.
DeHavilland has since upgraded that amp to produce 30 watts, and later released the SET Aries GM70 ($7995 USD per pair), which offers even greater power output, a quoted 50 watts into 8 ohms, due to the use of a triode output tube very new to the audio world.
Regarding the output tube, deHavilland says, "We run the GM70 tube conservatively and would expect 5000 to 8000 hours of service." In the event that you need a replacement, deHavilland sells these for $150 each with a 90-day warranty and stocks the 6AU5 and 12SN7 in quantity as well.

 DeHavilland DHC-2 Beaver
At the end of World War II, deHavilland Aircraft Canada was looking for a design they could use to keep their production lines running.
One crucial decision made by deHavilland was the choice of the Pratt and Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior as the powerplant; a strong, reliable and easy to maintain engine was a major design consideration for potential operators.
The prototype aircraft had seating for up to 6, but by the time civil certification was received in March of 1948 the seating capacity was a maximum of 8.
