 Hamilton, Indiana - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hamilton is a town located on the border of Steuben County, Indiana and DeKalb County, Indiana.
The origins of the town date back to the mid-1700's, when settlers started to arrive in the area of what is now northern Indiana.
In the late 1830's, the land that present-day Hamilton was built on was sold by the owner Niconar Munson to Dr. Samuel Tuttle, who was the first to plat the town.

The county seat was located on fifty acres donated by Bernard Richardson and named Smithville by the general assembly in honor of Samuel Granville Smith of Jackson County, a state senator and Tennessee's secretary of state.
DeKalb Countians on the home front got a taste of military action when the county became the site of army maneuvers held in preparation for the assault on Europe.
State-level DeKalb Democrats have also included McAllen Foutch, who served in the general assembly from 1943 to 1959 and as Speaker of the House from 1949 to 1959 and Frank Buck, a state representative elected continuously since 1973.

Isaac Jacob Jennings(1), son of Peter Jennings, Sr., was born 28 May 1787 in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.¹ In New Jersey he married Mary Johnson.²; She was born in 1788 in New Jersey.
Jacob was active politically, serving as a state legislator from 1843-1844, serving two terms as a County Comissioner, and one term as County Treasurer.
