John Vanbrugh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Seaton Delaval is one of the few houses Vanbrugh designed alone without the aid of Nicholas Hawksmoor.
This is part of the furtive quality of the baroque of Seaton Delaval: the ornamental appears as a display of strength and mass.
The sobriety of their joint work has sometimes been attributed to Hawksmoor, and yet Seaton Delaval is a very sombre house indeed.

Bavington Hall - Holiday Cottages and Gardens
Delaval in 1716 purchased the Hall and thirteen surrounding farms for the sum of £5,000.00.
BAVINGTON HALL hidden away for centuries, screened by woods that had become overgrown and suffered badly from the elements till a shadow of its former self, has been re-born, creating a setting suited to the grandeur of Bavington Hall and all of its historic credentials.
Bavington Hall is classified as a Grade II* Listed Building, the interpretation of that description is one of national interest.

icTeesside - Such colourful lives within its walls
Seaton Delaval Hall is off the coastal road at Seaton Sluice, between Whitley Bay and Blyth.
That the Delavals should be remembered through one of the North-East's most spectacular mansions is in keeping with a family history lacking for nothing in terms of incident and achievement.
George Delaval also became an admiral and diplomat and it was he who asked Vanbrugh to design Seaton Delaval Hall.

Seaton Sluice & Old Hartley Local History Society: The Delaval's
As long as the estate of Ford was united with that of Seaton Delaval no male of the family would die in his bed and so uncannily it proved to be.
In his excellent book "Those Delavals." Roger Burgess remarks - ''as youngsters they had everything that wealth could offer but between them and their children they burnt up the family fortunes in a way which was spectacular even for the 18th century.
Following in Sir Ralph's footsteps, John Delaval continued to build up trade but in 1718, saddled with debts incurred by other members of the family, he was forced to sell the 6,500-acre Delaval estate to his kinsman, Admiral George Delaval.

 visitors story
The effigies originally guarded the Delaval Family vault, which is situated beneath the church, and although chipped and worn, provide a very solid reminder that history is about the lives that our ancestors lived.
The road from Seaton Delaval village down to neighbouring Seaton Sluice is full of surprises.
But tucked away, just beside the Hall, is a hidden jewel of Northumbrian history: The Church of Our Lady in the Parish of Delaval.

Edward Elers Delaval Henderson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Edward Elers Delaval Henderson was a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.
The situation was critical and Colonel Henderson, although wounded, jumped on to the parapet and then advanced alone in front of his battalion, cheering them on under most intense fire over 500 yards of open ground.
On 25 January 1917 on the west bank of the River Hai, near Kut, Mesopotamia, Lieutenant Colonel Henderson brought his battalion up to the two first line trenches and they suffered heavy casualties when the enemy made a strong counter-attack, penetrating the line in several places.
