In the Anglican church, deacons are permitted to marry, as are priests.
Deacons are also appointed or elected in other Protestant denominations, though this is less commonly seen as a step towards the Ministry.

The history of the first Troyer in America was a confusing puzzle to historians for many years, and probably will never be completely known.
Michael's name is recorded in a 1767 deed book as Michael Dryer, but according to later records, he adopted the Troyer spelling for himself, and all his children used that version, also.
David was ordained Deacon of the Cadwell District Amish Church at age 55, on Oct.9, 1921.

A deacon named John Troyer learnt of the legend, and reputely using the " fl arts ", acquired knowledgeof its exact locale.
Then they waited untilexactly midnight, and then started a procession, Deacon Troyer holding the open Bible before him, and his son following with alighted candle, with spades, picks, etc. They dug down, and presently the pick struck metal.
This failed reclaiming was told by Troyer to McCall, and McCall to J. Coyne, who made it public in an address at an OntarioHistorical Society meeting in Norfolk County.

My father loved to tell me the story of his grandfather, Deacon John Stoltzfus, who in 1872, at 65, had the temerity to move from the rich farming country of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, to Knoxville, Tennessee, with its red soil and post-Civil War disarray.
Two generations later there was the story of my maternal grandfather, Samuel Troyer's struggle to be freed from the sense of guilt for past sins.
In another of Troyer's poems, "Now We Commit the Body To Rest," he intends the reader to imagine him speaking to the mourners from his coffin.

"St. John's, Woodhouse" (Anglican) Church was established south of Simcoe, northwest of Port Dover, northeast of Vittoria, and northwest of Port Ryerse, in Norfolk County's Woodhouse Township in the early 1820s.
John's Anglican Church, Woodhouse, Parish Registers, 1830-1851, 1885-1948 is available for sale from the Norfolk Historical Society at Eva Brook Donly Museum, 109 Norfolk Street South, Simcoe, Ontario, for $12 plus $2 postage.
John's Woodhouse is still active today and more recent genealogical events have been documented, although not microfilmed.
