Topic: Dead Hot Workshop

  TrouserPress.com :: Dead Hot Workshop
Hailing from the same town as the Gin Blossoms — Tempe, Arizona — Dead Hot Workshop debuted with a self-released cassette LP, followed several years later by a low-budget album, this one on CD.
The relatively subdued White House (its recording budget partly offset by a loan from Doug Hopkins of the Gin Blossoms) is full of decent, twangy tunes.
Only on the final track, "257," does Dead Hot Workshop cut loose in true blue-collar style-half-ranch, half-raunch-setting the tone for the band's major-label debut.

Hot Glass Bits is a personal chronological record of my wanderings through glass blowing and the bits and pieces of knowledge I gather along the way.
I live east of downtown Dallas and K-R is dead center north at LBJ beyond construction and in an area that is off my usual routes.

In addition to the CD releases, Dead Hot Workshop, one of Tempe's oldest and most respected bands, made their way back on the local scene after taking a several-month hiatus.
Almost four months since their last show and for the first time in two years with a full line-up., Dead Hot Workshop proved once and for all that they are still one of the strongest bands in the Arizona scene.
Dead Hot, which have six albums to their credit, plan on taking a six-week break from performing to continue rehearsing.

 Arizona State Fair review
Dead Hot Workshop's touring experience was apparent throughout their 45-minute set.
The whole band sounded tighter than ever, but toward the end of the set a typically unsophisticated Phoenix crowd started calling for the Gin Blossoms, rather than enjoying the sound of a talented band hitting its stride.
It was a great nod to the past few years of Tempe's upstart music scene, and I'm sure the ghost of Doug Hopkins was smiling down upon the whole affair.

Tempe, AZ-based singer/songwriter Brent Babb joined with drummer/bandleader Curtis Grippe to form the guitar-driven rock band Dead Hot Workshop in the early '90s.
More than a decade (and four albums) later, the group remained one of the hardest-hitting bands on the West Coast.
While their early sound centered on the two-guitar attack of Babb and Steve Larson and Babb's working-class-oriented lyrics, Dead Hot Workshop was forced to reorganize following the departure of Larson in June 1997.

Ziggy's, which took up the space long held by popular music hotspot Edcel's Attic, was the last bastion of hope for local music on downtown Mill Avenue until it, too, closed its doors in September.

Soon, requests for his songs outnumbered those for covers and The Mortals started opening for top-tier local bands including Dead Hot Workshop and the Gin Blossoms, as well as the nationally known Goo Goo Dolls.
In his final college years, Clyne and several others — including a reggae band — moved into a commune-style apartment that became a center for philosophical, music-charged gatherings.
