  "Dead Like Me" (2003)
With sharp and witty writing and directing, "Dead Like Me" explores the bizarre world of our working-class grim reapers, the good folks charged with escorting human souls to the afterlife.
The very essence of "Dead Like Me" is, in fact, its willingness to explore not only the bizarre world of the reapers, but also the lives and personalities of the reapers themselves.
And, not to leave out the living world, the creative minds behind "Dead Like Me," also frequently turn their attention to living characters on the show, from the "soon to be referred to the past tense" reaper clients to the families they leave behind (most notably George's grieving family).

Since 'Dead Like Me' is on hiatus for the moment, there has been very little information to post.
It's been a while since there has been 'Dead Like Me' news, I would hope with the announcement of some of the returning series to cable, that we might have had a date when the series returns.
Managed to get the 'Dead Like Me' spoiler page up with some spoilers on it, and most of the episode titles that I was able to dig up.

I like a TV show that actually makes you think and gives the viewer an important message: it's important to live your life to the fullest while you have the chance because who knows when it will be taken from you.
Dead Like Me tells the story of a group of people who have lost their lives and, rather than passing on to the next life, are destined to remain in society, living as Reapers, taking the souls of other people before they die and ensuring that they have an uninterrupted passage to the `other side'.

she's just dead, and the powers that be (whoever that is) want her to reap the souls of people who are about to die.
One of the catches is that she doesn't look like she used to anymore to living people and she also doesn't get anything provided for her.
From beginning to end Dead Like Me was a stellar show with more heart and soul than pretty much every other show on television, and while the story propelled it perfectly, and the direction and music were top notch, I attribute most of the show's brilliance to the cast.

tvdvdreviews.com -- Dead Like Me: The Complete First Season DVD Review
Dead Like Me was created by Bryan Fuller, who went on to pen Fox's short lived, critically acclaimed Wonderfalls.
Wonderfalls, which lasted a mere four episodes this spring, followed a Niagara Falls-based slacker whose life is changed (for the better or the worse, depending on how one looks at it) when the inanimate objects sold at her souvenir shop begin speaking to her, extolling her to perform a series of seemingly unrelated tasks.
"Dead Like Us Weekly" is an onscreen "Journal for the Recently Deceased." This well-designed feature is divided into two "articles." The first consists of singles ads for some of the characters who died on the show.

Dead Like Me puts a light touch on fl comedy, but it has a sneaky way of using humor to explore loss, loneliness, and regret, as well as kindness, and courage, and responsibility.
Of course, in the early episodes of the series George is not happy with being dead and not exactly thrilled with a job when she is given a post-it note with a name, address and E.T.D. (estimated time of death) so she can go reap a soul.

The fact is that DEAD LIKE ME was the finest show the network ever hosted, and its cancellation is both a blow to quality television on Showtime in particular but also television as a whole.
DEAD LIKE ME is a great example of a show that doesn't fit traditional entertainment economic categories.
"Dead Like Me" was the best and yes, most successful show on Showtime's lineup, and the only reason it was cancelled was because the head of the network didn't really find it to his taste.

Dead Like Me | PopMatters Television Review
Liberated from the selective perception that comes hand in hand with rational existence, the reapers are better prepared to anticipate the unexpected, to see that imminent moment when the terrestrial and the cosmic are linked and a person passes from one to the other.
This, undoubtedly, is why the only living human in Dead Like Me to have an inkling of the reapers' mission is a schizophrenic, who is uninvested in the ordinary and can therefore see it for what it really is. Most of us wear grooves in our lives by living in only a portion of them.
Like Monica, they meet their fates with an odd complacency; even on the brink of annihilation, they lack interest in their environments or in spiritual or mystical matters.
